  1. RE: mastodon.social/@RonSupportsYo

#Booker thoroughly fails on choosing #AIPAC & #genocide, over humankind and the people of Palestine. He is however absolutely correct, here. Before Don Trump scuttled the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action the entire world was FAR more secure. Trump = insecurity for personal profit & #plunder. Deaths of tens of thousands and the impoverishment of the US #public solely because he, the State of Israel for whom the USA is now a client state, and the plutocrat puppeteers who installed Trump & the Heritage/Federalist regime find crime to be fun.

  2. "I bought a NEW electric car and installed new solar panels on my roof with great big Tesla batteries and good lord I'll save some money in seven years if we don't talk about the car payment and installing the EV charger in my garage and the software I now pay for for the life of the gar (which won't be more than ten years anyway). But you know what, the break-even for the planet was on DAY ONE so whoduhthunkit I'm giving myself a good ol' pat on the back"

I see this, the stupidest of all takes, at least ten times a day here on ol' Mastodon.

I get real tired of saying this but let me try one more time, a little louder: THINGS REQUIRE THINGS TO BE MANUFACTURED. Buying new stuff is *not* *ever* an ecological good. EVER. Yes, I said ever. No, not even your solar panels.

    Use. Less. Shit.
    Stop. Caring. About. Status.
    Break. The. Machine.

And save the pat on the back. You've yet to do anything difficult, or which puts you in a position to have to stand against the grain.

    Do better.

  3. I'll also crosspost this with the updated figures from today's harvest for those of you interested. Since January first, we've produced on-site:

    111 dozen eggs (that's 1,336 eggs approximately)
    175.25 pounds of meat
    21 pounds of vegetables
    16.5 pounds of lard
    7 pounds of animal fodder

This does not count the 100 or so pounds of unrendered fat in our freezer, nor does it count almost all of our spring crops that have yet to come to harvest (only the early season ones that we already harvested). We've given lots away, and we have lots in our freezer and canned for later.

Our inputs are minimal: once a year we make a bulk organic animal feed order, we use some well water, and I did order seeds last year (though often I save them from our own vegetables). No fertilizers, no mineral inputs, no purchased soil, no pots, no trays, no tilling, nothing. We've transformed about a half acre or so (and growing) of our six acres of previously landfilled, compacted, and completely soil-collapsed land into cultivable soil. It's taking time, but the momentum is building and it's getting easier every season to rebuild topsoil and produce more on-site with less inputs.

  8. This month's newsletter release for paid subscribers is a compilation of the six biggest things we think you need to consider before going off on your homesteading, permacultur-ing, or back-to-the-land-ing dream.

While this might sound corny, we see you. We know that lots of you are disillusioned with the polycrisis and the economic and social institutions we live under and you wish for either sovereignty or an exit from capitalism or just to get out of your day job (or all three). Alternatively, we see those of you who are just trying to figure out how to reduce your own impact while seeking to solve some of the more structural issues, because let's face it: there is a possibility that all we can do is what *we* can do, because we know that the powers-that-be really might not care that we need change.

So we sat down and thought about what mistakes we made, and what mistakes others make, and what it is that people are ultimately looking to do when they try to get into a life like this. The result is useful, we think, and we hope that if you can spare $5 you'll look into it. Any contributions help us with our own sovereignty project, and help us feed others, and help us rewild this section of the Mojave and (we hope) a big enough section to make meaningful microclimate impacts one day.

If you read it, or contribute in any way, or share it, thank you very much. We appreciate you, and you're helping to keep us going.

But the way I see it, like #WhatMagazineOnline, it's a communal experience and a way of #BuildingCommunity . Because... We sure as hell need to #UniteAgainstTheRight (and #Colonialism and #Capitalism), right now! We are running out of time, folks.

  24. @prinlu agree to decolonize but this is like confusing anarchy with anomy or libertiarianism ... I think "anarchy" is actually quite close to that "indigenous governance" in it's diverse forms (applied or theoretical)

as in anarchy is there to preserve the commons, to organise solidarity without privilege, to "let every one receive what it needs and contribute what it can"

it's literal "indigenous governance" for people dominated by a "super class" in their own country

  41. #Decolonizing #ScienceFiction And Imagining Futures: An #IndigenousFuturisms Roundtable

By: Rebecca Roanhorse, Elizabeth LaPensee, Johnnie Jae, Darcie Little Badger, 30 January 2017

Johnnie Jae: "As a writer, Indigenous Futurism comes as naturally as breathing. It is in every story and article that we write because we have always understood the role that the past, present, and future play in every aspect of our realities. Unlike mainstream science fiction, where futurism is typically violent and values the advancement of technology over both nature and human beings, Indigenous sci-fi is the polar opposite. We imagine worlds where the advancement of #technology doesn’t disrupt or destroy #ecosystems or the balance of power between humans and nature. Even in stories where we are exploring alien worlds, we think about how we can co-exist with the life forms indigenous to that world. We think about the ways our cultures, languages, and everything that makes us who we are can be preserved and how they can evolve in these new worlds. As Elizabeth has mentioned, alternate realities are a huge part of our sci-fi because even if we’re not writers or artists, we all imagine how differently the world would be without certain events like #colonization."

  46. Uncovering #decolonial pedagogies for learning #agroecological transitions: comparative analysis of #SouthAmerica cases

Michelle Bonatti, et al, October 2025, published in Global Environmental Change.

    Highlights:

    • Decolonial pedagogies can facilitate agroecological transition processes.
    • Pedagogical models facilitate agroecological transitions by integrating diverse epistemologies in agriculture practices.
    • This study identifies three contextual learning narratives: Living, Resistance, and Hybrid Pedagogies.
    • A main archetype has been discovered, known as the 'South pedagogies archetype'.
    • The operational decolonial pedagogies framework shows how agroecological knowledge is created in the territory.

    Conclusion:

"This study reflects on the strengths, nuances, and contextual factors shaping three distinct learning processes, offering insights into the effectiveness of diverse pedagogical approaches for agroecology that value the epistemologies of the South. The research recognizes that potential agroecological transitions face challenges from entrenched power structures and the historical #erasure of knowledge systems, calling for more than technical adjustments—rather a fundamental revaluing of diverse ways of knowing and being is essential. In this context, this research responds to the pressing need for a deeper understanding of pluriversal knowledge systems, epistemologies of the South, and learning approaches that have emerged organically within the Latin American context, where agroecological movements have deep and strong roots.

The growth of agroecology, also as an academic discipline, presents both opportunities and challenges. While it validates traditional agricultural practices within Western scientific frameworks, it risks perpetuating colonial knowledge hierarchies if not grounded in decolonial perspectives. Decolonial pedagogies are fundamental for accelerating agroecological transitions. As shown in this study, traditional communities in #Colombia and #Peru have preserved and evolved their #agroecology knowledge systems through generations of #CollectiveLearning, offering profound insights into #Sustainable #FoodProduction that transcend the limitations of Western scientific methodologies. In parallel, decolonial pedagogies in the Brazilian case were essential to promote agroecological transition that started recently in the last decades.

"The three contextual narratives that emerged from the South pedagogy archetype are intricate and interconnected, defying simplistic categorization. This study shows how the South pedagogy archetype serves as a model of resistance to poverty and social exclusion through agroecology. As research understanding deepens, there is a pressing need to explore Indigenous pedagogies to unveil additional valuable approaches to learning that lead to more inclusive educational models that resonate with diverse learners and address complex global challenges.

"By showcasing the rich knowledge systems and alternative learning structures present in these three cases, this research provides valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and practitioners. These findings can inform the co-creation of strategies that nurture agroecological systems and transitions, embrace the growing diversity of agroecology approaches, and navigate the complexities inherent in designing learning processes that value multiple ways of being."
