  1. The fallen seeds from the Thai Red Roselle I planted last year volunteered this summer and they are nice, verdant and bushy from all of the rain we’ve been getting. #Perennials are a must for me in the garden. You put in effort one year and, if all goes well, you reap what you sewed for years to come.

The other plant is Davis green cotton, also a hibiscus relative. It’s the very first flower on this plant. I can’t wait to see a green cotton boll. #gardening #Florida #Zone10

  2. A snapdragon bloom had fallen off.
I picked it up, played with it - flower puppet fun.
Then, attached it to the plant it fell off from. It looks like it's eating its family 😅
(Caveat: I don't endorse eating your family)

  3. #Oakleaf #hydrangea.
I love how different they look from common hydrangeas. I also love how their foliage turns from green to shades of red & purple - which provide beautiful mixed foliage colours from Summer into mid-Autumn.
This one is just starting to bud.

  4. Quill-leaf #Lewisia.

This perennial herbal plant has medicinal benefits. Its roots are traditionally used to naturally alleviate stomach issues, diarrhea & skin irritations. Roots can be chewed to alleviate thirst. Medicinal use should only be done under experienced supervision, with correct dosage.

  5. Our deer don’t usually eat barrenwort so I think there is something putting pressure on their food sources. I’ve had this plant for 11 years with no grazing by the local deer.#gardening #deerproof #perennials #nature #whitetail #wildlife

  6. #SilentSunday with a busy #bee & a sunshiney #sunchoke bloom.

I grow a lot of them in large pots. I never plant these in ground because they'll spread too quickly & hard to contain in ground. I can control them better, in large & movable pots.

Also known as the Jerusalem artichoke plant - despite it not being from Jerusalem & it not being an artichoke. It was first cultivated by #IndigenousPeoples of North America.

  7. My purple #hostas are all sporting new #FlowerBuds 😀

All hostas are fully #edible - from root to shoots to stems to foliage to flowers. Roots/shoots/leaves taste like combo of asparagus & endives - cook them up, in similar ways. Flowers can be sugared & they taste like raw honey.

    #OTD Edna Walling, #Australian #GardenDesigner & #Writer, is born.

    She worked for 4 decades (1920-1960) & made 300+ #Gardens.

After advocating for #Native #Plants (she was ahead of her #TIme), she wrote about the #Backlash:

[I got a letter addressed to me] as #Dear #Anti-#Annual!
    Oooooh, what have I said?
    Something rude about #Iceland #Poppies or #Asters?
    How narrow-minded of me.
