  11. Save the date! September 26, 2026!

#OttawaONT - September #RepairCafé (no ticket required; FREE EVENT)

    By #OttawaToolLibrary

    Zibi, 28 Booth Street, Ottawa

    Saturday, September 26th, 2026, from 10am until 2pm.

"#RepairCafés are opportunities for all #Ottawa & area residents to feel purpose and belonging – whether as a visitor or volunteer – to save money, learn new skills and foster a culture of repair! Repair Cafés directly divert items from our local landfills and reduce our environmental impact, while allowing our community to engage in accessible climate action!

Repair Cafés are an international concept that has come to the National Capital Region with the goal of reducing landfill waste, teaching new skills, and building community!

Our past Repair Cafés have been very successful with volunteers fixing dozens of items and sharing their knowledge around everything from darning socks to re-wiring kettles.

It's first-come, first-served, so please be prepared for the chance of extended wait times. Though we work as quickly and efficiently as we can, the popularity of these events is increasing and we can never tell what kind of wait there may be for us to see your item. We ask for your patience and kindness - remember, we are all on this repair mission together! :)

This event is sponsored by the Dream Community Foundation and hosted by Zibi and is free of charge. This listing is for information purposes only. All registration occurs onsite. You DO NOT HAVE TO REGISTER via Eventbrite, but a donation to support these great initiatives is always appreciated and helps cover expenses for volunteers. Note that if you kindly donate it does not mean you get to skip the line or show up as we are closing down with the expectation that someone will see your item.

Support provided from EPRA enables us to safely recycle any items that are not able to be repaired at the Repair Café."

    #Aotearoa / #NewZealand - #RepairFestival 2026

"The Aotearoa New Zealand-wide Repair Festival was launched in September 2024, successfully bringing together the many Repair Cafés, businesses, organisations, and Councils that are joining the growing Repair Community. In 2025, we saw an even higher and broader participation, leading to a strong desire for a month-long festival.

The Repair Festival 2026 runs from Saturday, September 5 to Sunday, September 27 (the first Saturday to the last Sunday of the month), as we host continuous repair activities and events all across the motu. We invite everyone to join the Repair Movement: communities, businesses, schools, universities and libraries, advocacy groups, and government.

For years, that was decent advice. Today, it can walk you straight into a trap. Recent security research highlights a growing wave of phishing attacks targeting popular apps like WhatsApp and Instagram. These scams use valid SSL/TLS encryption […]

    Sunday, September 13 • 10 AM - 11 AM

    Highbury Community House
    110 Hinemoa Street
    Auckland, Auckland 0626

"Come hang out, trade your coolest homemade stuff, and meet fellow makers for a fun afternoon of swapping and chatting!

    The Maker’s Swap

    A cosy little gathering for #creatives, #HobbyMakers, #bakers, #artists, and #crafty people alike.

Each guest brings 5 #handmade items to swap. This could be anything from #BakedGoods and #candles to #crochet, #sewing, #preserves, #ceramics, #art, #SelfCare products, and more. In return, you’ll leave with 5 unique handmade treasures created by other #LocalMakers. There will be structured swap rounds to make sure everyone gets a fair chance to choose pieces they love.

Alongside the swap itself, there’ll be time to browse, chat, meet fellow creatives, and enjoy a slow, cosy atmosphere filled with thoughtful handmade things.

This isn’t about perfection or professional selling, it’s about creativity, connection, and celebrating the joy of making things by hand."

  52. #Indigenous Leadership for Transformative #ClimateAction

    By Kaniela Ing & #NDNCollective

    Excerpt: "Restoring Regeneration

"Climate justice will require a significant structural shift from a #ProfitBased global #extractive economy to #NeedsBased, #localized, #RegenerativeEconomies. Anthropologists believe that, for centuries, people in many Indigenous societies worked roughly 15 hours a week to provide for their personal and communal needs. Our ancestors mastered advanced ecological management practices—like #regenerativeAgriculture , #aquaculture, #ControlledBurning, and #CoralReef replenishment — that Western empiricism is finally catching up to after decades of colonial governments banning such practices. These highly efficient Indigenous systems afforded our ancestors ample time to engage in fellowship with friends, practice arts and #crafts, learn new skills, or just relax and enjoy their lives.

"Today, we produce enough goods and services to exceed the needs of all among us, but poverty and income equality remain stark. Extractive systems endlessly require another valley, another river, another island, another continent—until there is nowhere left to occupy, conquer, pollute, and destroy. No clearer purveyor of this #ColonialMindset exists than the man who milked the most out of the #ExtractiveEconomy. Jeff Bezos, currently the richest man in the world, recently spent $5.5 billion dollars on a joyride to space using the money he’s hoarded by exploiting and abusing hundreds of thousands of workers selling mostly useless goods—made cheap by the monopoly power of Amazon and Amazon-affiliated companies—to the masses. Like a movie villain, his first comment upon witnessing the majesty of our cosmos was that we should immediately begin polluting it by exporting our trash beyond Earth’s orbit.

"We should take heart in the fact that people built our oppressive institutions, because it means that people can dismantle them and build something new. People hold the knowledge and technologies to transform society. All we need is moral fortitude and revolutionary courage. Today’s extractive systems were created and are upheld by the colonial myths of scarcity, individualism, and the sanctity of free markets. Tomorrow’s regenerative systems must be rooted in the Indigenous realities of #abundance, community codependency, and deep #reciprocal relationships between the planet and its people."
