Today I am doing some glaze experiments using Mary Fox's beautiful Earthenware base https://glazy.org/recipes/798944
I have had to do a bit of improvising, changing the feldspar, adding a little silica and iron oxide, etc, and also done some tests with the addition of ilmenite and manganese dioxide.
But most of all, I want to see how the glaze interacts with a iron oxide stripe on the lips of the cups, both over and under. #pottery #ceramics #glaze

Received the 2 ft / 600 mm long ceramics tubes from the factory. They are amazing! The thinnest is 2 mm outer diameter and has two 0.25 mm channels for the thermocouple wire. Perfectly straight, if you look straight in the hole you can see the back table.
Used with type K or type C thermocouple wire to make some temperature sensors for the 2500 deg F to 3500 deg F range

Breathing in LPG will do a lot of bad things to you, including killing you, if a spark didn't get to you first and exploded the whole kitchen.
My assumption is that you have a regulator, proper seals, a flexible hose which is not dried out or copper piping, in short a well functioning setup.

Microwave ovens are not good for our health in general. Use an open stove driven with LPG gas, e.g
If you have to use a microwave better use Ceramics instead of plastics. Ceramics can withstand extremely high temperatures and don't leach dangerous chemicals into your food
Plastics leach many chemicals into your food. Ftalates are one example.

I recently changed my kiln elements for the first time (the first time I've done it myself, not the first time it's been done). It wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be, although it was irritating and fussy and took about two hours. It's the difference between $80 for new elements and $380 for the elements and $300 for labor.
And also the sense of self-sufficiency. I've changed the thermocouple before and the relay is snap-in and that's all the parts that need to be replaced regularly so I think now I can maintain it on my own. Next step in kiln-nerdity would be winding my own coils, but that's on a whole different level and takes a kind of precision that I'm not necessarily capable of.

How do we stage broken #ceramics for photographic #reconstruction?
With painter’s tape, we hold the #sherds together just long enough to take a photo. 📸 Residue is then cleaned off with ethanol—so the pottery isn't glued.
This pot was found during an #excavation in Lower #Austria! Thrown on a potter's wheel, its characteristics suggest it's from the late 13th to early 15th century!#Archaeology #History #Museum
