  1. The results - the plain glaze is nice. The added ilmenite needs to be better suspended, and the manganese version is a tad dark. #pottery #ceramics #glaze

  2. 20120509 | raven-teapot

this was my first ever teapot that i made in ceramics in college and gosh do i miss throwing clay

i love having so many interests in my life; keeps it interesting and i learn a lot (i love learning in case you didn't know)

  3. I do, however actually buy physical books by glaze makers because it is often the only way I can show some concrete appreciation for their immense generosity in sharing their knowledge. #pottery #ceramics #glaze

  4. One of the most fantastic tools I have found online is the Glazy.org calculator that can compare between a successful glaze and one you are trying to reformulate.

This is very helpful when it comes to adjusting a glaze for local ingredients. #pottery #ceramics #glaze

  5. Today I am doing some glaze experiments using Mary Fox's beautiful Earthenware base glazy.org/recipes/798944

I have had to do a bit of improvising, changing the feldspar, adding a little silica and iron oxide, etc, and also done some tests with the addition of ilmenite and manganese dioxide.

But most of all, I want to see how the glaze interacts with a iron oxide stripe on the lips of the cups, both over and under. #pottery #ceramics #glaze

  6. I have a #RocketKiln that fires using scrap wood but I've never heard of a traditional wood fire kiln using scrap wood to fire. Typically, people either chop their own over the course of a year or buy cords of wood which can be very expensive. Josh DeWeese, a well-known ceramic artist, shows his wood fired kiln in this video that uses throwaway wood from local cabinet makers who are happy to give it to him rather than pay to dump it. ceramicartsnetwork.org/clayfli

  7. Nothing like a good cup of coffee on a Sunday morning! (don't get me wrong, the coffee is shit but the cup is good, I'd say) ☕🌞

I used too much water on the wheel, so it got a little wonky, but I think I covered it up quite well. Didn't add a handle, so you have to touch the boobies for grip. 🌝

Bonus: it's in the colours of my eyes!

  8. "Garden Visit"
    Teableau for 04/14/26

Bunnies visit my yards, but not nearly as abundantly as they did before the neighbor next door got an outdoor cat.

  9. Hadn't thrown for a while but gave 7.5 lbs a try! Was able to bring the rim back from the brink, but check out this video where I totally botch it. We'll see how warpy it gets in the firing 😄

  15. Really, really, really still trying to find My People here on Mastodon. Am I on the wrong server or something? I'm a self-employed #artist / #maker / #writer ... I make #ceramics ( #pottery )... dye #yarn ... #knit ... read #sciencefiction ... have two #dogs and eleven #cats ... am a recent #widow who loves to talk about what a wild ride #grief is ... and I'm a #Floridian scared shitless for my #BiPOC and #lgbtqia friends and family. Is that enough tags? Hello? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

  16. A #ceramics challenge. A friend commissioned me to make 2 ramen bowls & 2 teacups that were roughly the same shape as a set she'd bought years ago.

Hers were mass produced and she wanted handmade work.

The difficulty was in scaling up the teacups because hers were smaller than she wanted.

So I took a bunch of photos & measurements & ended up with these.

    I hope she likes them.
