I filled the doodle I made the other day after baking it out overnight again. This time I wound some new coils from the scrap wire bin for my induction heater to wirelessly heat the electrodes while they were in the kiln and under vacuum.
The electrodes are coated with an emmission coating the acts as a "getter" and helps to collect residual impurities left in the tube. My thin scrap wire coils got all hot and smokey as the current ran though them from my induction heater - but they also got the electrodes hot and activated the coating.
It was looking pretty airy when I tipped it off from the kiln after adding argon. Leaving it on a 5kv, 120ma transformer on a flasher overnight cleaned it right up- when I came in the next morning, it was ready for mercury. The old school folk methods still work :)
Now it's shining bright- the other tubes mostly overpowering my dark brown.
