In NZ's deep south it's sea lion breeding season. Female sea lions try to avoid males by moving inland and they end up in all sorts of silly places, like the one in this ODT story.
Here in Long Beach our sea lions are generally well behaved. They raise their pups in the sand dunes and never venture across the domain toward the houses. At least, they haven't so far.
May they enjoy a fruitful season.

I use that Post Shop from time to time because it's convenient when you're coming from the north, and there's always parking. Trying to park near the Uni Bookshop can be a nightmare and I rarely visit South Dunedin. It's a seriously shitty thing for NZ Post to be doing.

Without wishing in any way to make light of the current situation in Ōtepoti/Dunedin, I thought I should do my bit and support local industries. So I bought some of the local small batch vodka made at Sandymount on the Peninsula. I mean, it’s a lovely drop and it was the least I could do :-)

One more photo from the family album. This one is titled, "Temperance Procession" and was taken in 1922 by my Great Uncle. I suspect the photo is taken in South Road, Caversham, near Laing Street. (My family back then were staunch Methodists. For years my grandfather wouldn't even play cards on a Sunday, but in his old age, he relented. He and I spent many an hour playing cribbage on his Sunday visits to our home in the late 1960's.)

The New Zealand national rugby team, aka the Black Ferns, played a terrific game of open rugby against an admittedly weak Welsh side last night in Ōtepoti. One of my all-time favourite rugby players, Ruby Tui, who I have an entirely appropriate man-crush on, scored four tries. What a player and what a team. Highlights below.
