About the time I stopped posting last night, the UK Eurovision entry for 2025, Remember Monday, released a cover of Husavik - My Hometown:

One last winner from the Smash Hits Poll of 1989, the Most Promising New Group.
Big Fun, three lads who sung in almost-harmony, who danced in near-unison, and whose hair was suspiciously like Bruce Forsyth's. They didn't have any big hits after 1989, and band member Jason John died in 2017.
There is something undeniably brilliant about the chorus of "Can't shake the feeling", I'll remember them this way.

The Smash Hits Poll of 1989 honoured Top of the Pops as Best Television Music Show.
Maureen Lipman's "got an -ology" adverts for British Telecom were the best tv advert. Worst advert went to Nescafé Gold, where Anthony Stewart Head and Sharon Maughan had had an on-off affair for two years without ever getting the cream out.
Best House-Dance Act went to Neneh Cherry. Here's the almost-forgotten "Kisses on the wind".

Still with the Smash Hits Poll of 1989, where Guns n' Roses won Best rock outfit. Amateur theologian Margaret Thatcher was Most Completely Useless Person, but Spiders retained the coveted Most Very Horrible Thing award.
Worst single of the year was "I'd rather jack" by The Reynolds Girls. A hit in March; by the time of the awards in October, they'd already been dropped.

Prince won some stuff at the Smash Hits Poll of 1989: Worst-dressed person and Worst album for the "Batman" soundtrack. "Batman" itself won Best film; Michael Jackson's "Moonwalker" won Worst film.
Martika was the Most Promising New Soloist; let's prove that promise was met, fast forward to 1991 and her song co-written with Prince, "Martika's kitchen".

Kylie Minogue (Charlene from "Neighbours") wasn't far behind; Best female soloist and Worst female soloist, and Most fanciable female.

Jason Donovan (Scott from the show) won Best male soloist and Worst male soloist, Most fanciable male, Best-dressed, and Album of the Year for "Ten Good Reasons".
From it, Jason's big hit "Too many broken hearts".
