Cracking day out on the South Island Randonnée although numbers were way down on last year's event. On the plus side I didn't miss the May Bank Holiday traffic queues where the route crosses the approaches to Ryde. Recently while unpacking our bikes, two elder guys unpacked their MTBs next to us (also no ebikes).

One looked at the bikes "Nobody’s told you about e-bikes yet either, right?"

I looked at the bikes, pointed to my thighs.
"I'm driving a double cylinder oat motor."

He laughed and we parted - Hours later they passed us up hills and from behind I heard "Ah, the double cylinder oat-motor!" 😀

And in grumpy magpie news, there's one in Dandelion Drive in Rowville with a technique all of its own! Riding down the street the magpie swooped from behind, grabbed hold of my shirt on the back in its claws on about my shoulder blade, buffetting with its wings to stay hanging on and pecked three or four times at the back of my neck! Flew off, then came back in and did it again
