  1. Took the opportunity to go up before we get a late spring snow dump the coming days.

  2. Having a great early #cycling season, with 11 rides in April and more than 800 km on the season already. Of course, now the rains will come and make it more challenging to get out. New #bike, new computer, #Insta360 camera all giving me new incentive to get out there into the gorgeous early spring we've had in temps running from the 40s to the 80s F.

  7. As of April 9, I have 488 km of riding on the season (my whole last season was 2000 km) – and a lovely new bike, a Cervélo Caledonia. I went over to the electronic shifting/disc brakes / wide tires cult, and I am not regretting it. I come back from rides so much less fatigued!

It allowed me to go up a cinder trail that I've been avoiding in recent years because it was really rough on my 23mm tires on my Roubaix.

  12. First ride this year with 750+ meters EG on the bike. Most difficult however was keeping my eyes on the road with this view. Perlenwetter ☀️

  13. I haven't ridden with a #bikecomputer in years – my last one failed, didn't feel like shelling out hundreds for the feature-laden modern ones. But I finally gave in this week and got a relatively inexpensive Bryton 650 (no subscription, OpenStreeMaps, works with the Bryton tail light radar I got last year), and I have to say: knowing your speed is good, and it does not suck to have a map handy sometimes. This will push me this year. #cycling #roadcycling #roadbike

  14. As a mountain biker, you take risks but you're in control of your risks. In road racing it's so much about positioning and the risk is completely out of your control. You put yourself in a position in the peloton and hope for the best, that nobody in front of you crashes. That took quite a lot of mental work for me to overcome.

#cycling in the Pro peloton and mental work

We read a lot about positioning in terms of competitiveness too, even WvA struggling lately after all his crashes and injuries, riders expending a lot of energy on this matter that would miss in the end

Here Alan talks about transitioning from #mountainbiking to #roadcycling

  15. I've been a still photographer for decades, but have never had any affinity for video. 1000s of pictures of our kids, almost no videos. But we just bought an Insta360 camera to capture #cycling rides, #kayaking, #hiking, etc., and I'm really enjoying it. Still working out how to edit to make it interesting to others, but I really enjoy looking at my favorite routes after I've done them.

  16. Public service announcement from professional cyclist Tibor Del Grosso: just ask before you start following someone out on the road. It's the polite thing to do. Be safe, be mindful, don't be a creep.

The pros attract this kind of behaviour but the advice works exactly the same for any person or group you encounter on the road: want to ride along? Just ask.
