  1. Nowy Jork, czwarta rano.

To tytuł starego polskiego filmu z 1988 roku którego akcja rozgrywa się w fikcyjnym miasteczku gdzieś w Polsce. Główną rolę zagrał tam piotrkowski areszt śledczy, a sam film opowiada o marzeniach młodych ludzi w szarej rzeczywistości.

Tropisch eben. 😋

  5. The Snow Melts Somewhere @thesnowmeltssomewhere.wordpress.com@thesnowmeltssomewhere.wordpress.com ·

    Spotted, in Summery Helsinki

A guy locks his bike. His black t-shirt has Nerd written on the chest in capital letters. He looks like he is on his way somewhere, determined, automated. Perhaps he rides his bike to work.

A woman walks by with the word Nostalgia on her t-shirt. She is looking dreamily up towards the sky as she talks with her family. She looks like she is on holiday.

A little girl runs past, energetically. Her shirt notes May contain chocolate. This makes me smile.

I always wonder if people choose their t-shirt messages randomly, almost by accident, or are they baring their souls? Other shirt texts I spotted, once I started looking:

    “Make climate cool again”
“I always end up at Zara”
    “All the basic stuff”
“Madness is a state of mind”

I’m on a walk, idly observing downtown Helsinki in the summer.

A food truck’s sign advertises rolled ice cream. How does that work? If I were to try rolling ice cream, it would surely result in a mess. More importantly: Why?

I do try matcha tiramisu, however, at a fancy second hand store for designer brands where a grey-haired woman in a leopard print shirt sips something bubbly from a coupe glass. She looks elegant, classy, and happy.

My tiramisu is fluffy and thick. And green! I believe little café moments are quite appropriate as part of a walk. In Sweden, it’s a whole concept: they call idle coffee breaks fika.

My walk takes me to a building with a sign in front that says, quite refreshingly, Trespassing allowed! As it provides a shortcut, I don’t mind if I do. The building is neat and modern on the inside.

I then wander onto a café-lined street in a residential area and notice that it leads right downtown – another beautiful shortcut, since the street after the cafés is suddenly decorated with dozens of flower pots all placed in a row, one after the other, lining the street.

Their owner remains a mystery, but there are watering cans underneath some benches that cry for attention. Would you water my roses? one asks playfully. A few steps further, another one calls more urgently: Would you water my roses!

As an afterthought, I could have done so. But I was in observation mode, like a wildlife photographer. Look, but do not disturb the order of things. The photos didn’t turn out that nicely, though, and so didn’t end up in this post.

Some stories are better told with photos, some with words.
