  1. When is an ebike not an ebike? When it has a powerful illegal engine. Get this menace off our roads | Peter Walker
    By Peter Walker

As a cyclist I want the authorities to act with clarity. Lime bikes and renters can be annoying, but the true threat is those who dangerously flout the law

Always fun to see the well to do with money to throw around when their little slice is disrupted. They can hire a risk facilitator? I wonder if they have a PR team too?

  14. #Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:
#TfL has published Bus Services Meeting papers and decisions covering proposed changes to routes 42, 106, 253, 254, 67 and 149. The papers show plans to withdraw route 254, increase frequencies on routes 106 and 253, and cut route 106 back to Whitechapel before extending it to Aldgate. Route 42 would be cut back to Tooley Street, with frequency increases at some times. For routes 67 and 149, TfL approved consultation on a proposal to withdraw route 67 and reroute route 149 between Wood Green and London Bridge, with peak frequencies reduced to 7.5 buses per hour. TfL said route 42 passenger numbers had fallen from about 9,600 in 2019 to 6,900 in 2026. Passenger usage data for routes 67 and 149 was referred to TfL's online database. TfL confirmed the route 310 review was not conducted with the withdrawal of route 254 in mind.

  15. #Transport for #London Freedom of Information release:

#TfL has disclosed passenger capacity standards for its #Underground, DLR, Elizabeth line and London Overground services, but does not hold records showing how often limits were exceeded in 2024 and 2025. Its planning capacity assumes four people per square metre, the maximum crowding level at which services can be sustainably operated. Capacities range from 432 passengers on Waterloo & City to 1,498 on the Elizabeth line. TfL records disruptions lasting two minutes or more, rather than passenger numbers, and does not centrally record platform overcrowding or crowd-control incidents. Measures such as closing staircases, entrances or ticket barriers are generally recorded in station log books. TfL said identifying the requested incidents would require reviewing every station log book for the two-year period.

  22. 🇮🇪 The National #Transport Authority (NTA) has launched the National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) 2026 to gather information on travel habits across #Ireland and support future transport planning and investment.

Running from September to early December, the survey will involve around 4,000 randomly selected households. Independent research agency Ipsos B&A is conducting the study on behalf of the NTA.

Participants will be asked about household composition, vehicle and bicycle ownership, access to services and internet connectivity. Household members will also be invited to record their journeys over two days, including destinations, purposes, travel times, distances and modes of transport.

The NTA said the survey will comply with GDPR, with information kept confidential and results published only in anonymised, aggregated form. Findings will help monitor travel trends, improve transport modelling and inform future transport plans.

  23. Around 90,000 schoolchildren across Greater #Manchester will benefit from free Bee Network tram travel for educational trips under a new 12-month partnership between #Transport for Greater Manchester and Aviva.

The scheme aims to remove travel costs as a barrier to school visits to museums, galleries, theatres, green spaces and other destinations. Groups of at least 10 can apply for free travel through the Bee Network website, with journeys permitted after 9.30am on weekdays or at any time at weekends.

Schools previously paid £1 per child and £2 per accompanying adult under TfGM’s ‘Kid for a Quid’ scheme, which was used by more than 40,000 children.

The initiative supports the Greater Manchester Strategy’s aim of widening opportunity and improving educational inclusion. It is also intended to encourage sustainable travel and greater confidence using public transport.

The partnership was launched at Aviva Studios in Manchester on Friday 11 September.

  24. 🚇🏛️ #London #Transport #Museum will mark 120 years of the Piccadilly line with family activities during October half term.

From 24 October to 1 November, visitors can enjoy storytelling, arts and crafts and tinkering activities inspired by the Underground line. Younger children can take an imaginary journey across London, while older visitors can design a Tube train of the future. Families can also design a Tube station inspired by Piccadilly line architecture or build a flying Tube train.

A quieter ‘early explorer’ session for SEND families will take place on 28 October from 8.30am to 10am, with advance booking required.

The Museum’s Creation Station weekend crafts will continue on selected dates until March 2027.

Kids go free, while adult tickets include free daytime return visits for a year. Families with children aged 10 and over can also book Hidden London tours, including a family tour of disused Aldwych station.

  30. Here are two reminders from my bike commute today that, despite all the recent high profile hand wringing in the NZ media about e-scooters, these are not the big reason why the streets of our cities are dangerous.
