Saturday, I'm stimulating your brain with Unreal Engine. I hope game dev karma will reward me. A simple idea is to pass the grid to a BumpOffset node, which will mystically distort (improve) the texture. I called it "illusion optical grid effect".

Trying out Tracy again.
On the plus side it's actively maintained, unlike Optick.
On the downside it still looks a bit ugly, I had to manually implement label color generation to make it readable, and sampling profiling fails to complete even on a toy app.
Am I missing something?

made an account on mastodon.gamedev.place a few days ago, but it still has not been activated.
the account is for Temika and my hobbyist game dev studio.
happy to wait -- just not sure how long?

Still experimenting with showing villager mood in the villagers panel. I'll post a thread with different options.
First, yesterday's "colored emoji" option, vs just colored circles. Not a fan of either, looks out of place.

Game dev log.
"The Hollow Below".
A game written in BASIC for the BBC Micro.
@HazelGritt and I had a team meeting this morning, we settled on a few more sprites for the game.
We needed sprites for reward items and NPCs. That led to a little exploration on the game's narrative, which we decided was about an evil ancient labyrinth which the player must close.
Finally, and importantly for me, we need to make a WSIWYG level editor because level design has gotten quite difficult.

[P] A hiverarchian rejects a wondowless starship or a six-limbed dragon because it isn't familiar. The thinking is: "But my house has windows!" or "Bats only got two wings and two lege!" and then "That's not right! I don't like it!" So imaginative people end up being afraid of having fun with science, magic, or even accurate(!) additions because it isn't what hiverarchians "know." It applies to abstracts aswell, is the thing.

[P] I've mentioned this prior, but... hiverarchians love suffering, they see it as necessary. One must suffer to claim rank in hierarchy, others must suffer even more for being outsiders (the browns, the disabled, et al). And no one writers torture-porn like a hiverarchian. See: GRRM, one of the least imaginative auuthors of our time, a huge plagiarist. Why do hiverarchians like his work? Rape, abuse, "punishment," white saviours...

[P] The concept of "Becauae it's what I know!" vis-a-vis hiverarchians is still knocking around in my head. It's a strange sort of realisation that ties into everything hiverarchian. Why there's generational hatred, horribly toxic nostalgia, and the discomfort of a changing world. "How dare the trans take my Harry Potter from me!" I mwan, thry didn't, Rowling did that because she's a hiverarchian, tribal against a changing world.

I'm grateful that my co-workers never get defensive or annoyed when I ask a million questions about their systems. Even after nearly 2 decades in the industry, I still think #GameDev s are super cool and learning about their work is one of the job's best perks.

Fixed a bug in #CDogsSDL with a funny history: muzzle flashes weren’t showing when the player is just in front of a door…
Ages ago I added a feature that left bullet marks on walls and doors. Problem was the bullet marks would show if the doors opened, floating in the air, so to fix this I hid any particles that were
- in front of an open door
- mid-air
- not moving
But guess which particles also fit that description? That’s right, muzzle flashes!🤦

Another playthrough, another 20 little issues crop up, this game is not making it easy 😅
