Samsung SGH-E700
(2003)A monumental release that redefined the aesthetics of clamshell mobile phones and firmly established Samsung as a global design powerhouse. Before the E700, almost all flip phones (including Samsung's own highly successful earlier models) featured a prominent, stubby external antenna. The E700 changed the game by integrating the antenna completely inside its sleek, pebble-like chassis.

Weight: Extremely pocket-friendly at just 85 grams.The engineering and design synergy on the E700 was remarkable. By removing the external antenna, Samsung created a perfectly smooth, highly pocketable device that didn't snag on clothing. The signature dark blue and silver color scheme became an instant classic, looking incredibly premium and futuristic for 2003.
The external OLED display was a major talking point. Not only did it show the time, battery status, and caller ID with high contrast, but it also functioned as a full-color viewfinder. Users could close the phone and use the external screen to accurately frame self-portraits with the VGA camera—making it one of the earliest champions of the "selfie" long before front-facing cameras became the industry standard.
The SGH-E700 was a massive commercial triumph, selling over 10 million units worldwide and cementing Samsung's formidable reputation in the European market. Got this new cassette, put it into my sacrificial VCR... heard quite a strange sound on rewinding - definite sound of plastic things rubbing on things.
Suspected sticky shed syndrome at first, but tape passes checks (no weird smell, low friction no-data surface, rewinds with no issues/no tension spikes).
The tape seems all good. Decided to go forward with repacking process. The sound vanished about 20% into the fast forward. The sound did not reappear for the last 80% of the tape on fast forward, the sound did not reappear during rewind.
Seems like sound still can appear during fast forward close to the start of the tape: my working theory is that the noise comes from spinning of the small white plastic guide on the take-up side (right/empty spool).
That little bit seems to have a lot of freedom to move, I think based on the tape angle (due to size of the take-up spool) the tape rubs against it in different ways and sometimes makes it rapidly spin along with tape motion.
