Looking back on an unforgettable Jolla Phone Day1 event. ❤️ What made the event truly special was the support of the Jolla community. Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared ideas, and celebrated this milestone with us. This is what makes the Jolla community so special. Moments like these remind us that our community has always been at the heart of Jolla.
Here's a look back at some of our favorite moments.

> basically whole core is open source
Well, the whole core is Linux and Linux utils. Nothing that Jolla have developed themselves. These are already on 99+% of all linux desktop and laptops and has nothing to do with #SailfishOS nor #Jolla.
Don't quote me on this, but I believe even legally Jolla cannot even make them not OpenSource due to the licensing of these software.
As far as I understand, Jolla's Browser and Office are the only things that Jolla voluntarily have OpenSourced.

@Antti98
Needless to say that @jolla is not "the only open source based and independent mobile OS without any ties to big corporations" because, from the top of my head, at least these Linux-based Mobile OSs exist and are 100% or almost 100% OpenSource:- @postmarketOS

I just managed to find some time to go through the tabs on my computer 😅 I'll just add two links to add to the topic:1. in 2015 @jolla stated this:
> Our goal with the #SailfishOS is to develop an open source operating system in co-operation with the community,
Source: https://web.archive.org/web/20150101044101/https://sailfishos.org/about-license.html
2. Today they have this instead:
> It is the only open source based and independent mobile OS without any ties to big corporations
along with this figure

Are you one that have the new Jolla J2 phone? A Sailfish user with an older phone? And/or one that has a Pebble watch? Try this cool watchface!

That ship already sailed when yesterday in full force the #SailfishOS and #Jolla community called newcomers "moron", "couch CEO", "rude", "inconsiderate", and so on. I personally was only honored with the "couch CEO" and "rude". Luckily, I was not the one the self-proclaimed "oldtimers" were cursing and cussing, and I was just in the crossfire.Lack of moderation form @jolla during the past weeks means that they are silently approving this behavior.

Hohoo! Jos kiinnostaa saada MobilePay toimimaan Jollan uudessa puhelimessa, Aurora Storesta lataamalla version 4429694 homma lähtee pelittää.
Aurora Storessa, hae MobilePay.
Itse latasin Braven.
Ps. Kannattaa estää automaattiset päivitykset Aurorassa.

Jolla Phone deliveries have officially begun!
What started with a very ambitious goal in December has become a reality. It was an incredible milestone delivered by the Jolla Team with amazing support of our community ❤️ Last week, we handed over the first Jolla Phones to early backers at our launch event in Helsinki, and now we're moving into Batch #1 deliveries.
Here's what happens next:
Batch #1 (around 2,700 orders!) will start shipping in order of purchase. Please allow 2–3 weeks for all Batch #1 deliveries to get rolling.
Batch #2: we target to ship some early orders by the end of July but most shippings are expected in early to mid-August.
Batch #3 we target to start shipping by end of August.
For those who ordered the Snow White: due to a last-minute manufacturing issue, the Snow White TOHs will be shipped in backorder at no extra cost. Meanwhile, Snow White phone customers will receive The Orange with their phone and the Snow White in a follow-up shipment.
Thank you to everyone who's backed the project and supported us along the way. We're really excited to get a Jolla Phone into your hands and appreciate your patience as we work through every order.

Jolla has published a blog post on the upcoming deliveries of the J2 phone (batch 1 to 3), just to satisfy people like me that are not good at waiting. Guess what… Shipping starts today!
They added some release notes on Sailfish OS 5.2, and info on two bug fixes releases coming up. Hopefully Jolla will have fine tuned the camera a bit with these releases.
Jolla asks for contributions on the open source parts of the OS.

I have been observing the #SailfishOS and @jolla community for some weeks. It is "interesting" how they are treating newcomers [1,2]. There are way more examples, but well, character limits🤷
This is the textbook definition of gatekeeping. What they should do instead is to create a hashtag or something, so that new-comers tag themselves and gray-beards with zero tolerance can block that hashtag. Instead it is turning into reverse trolling.

Are you a fan of old-school Commodore? I surely am :ablobcatbongokeyboard: While having fun with long-awaited Commodore 64 Ultimate, a newsletter arrives announcing Commodore Callback - not-so-smart flip phone company is developing and taking pre-orders now :neocat_phone:
Few things caught my attention (as advertised):
- Runs 99% of Android apps (without running Android)
- Flip closure + T9-style texting
- 48MP Sony rear camera with flash and intelligent autofocus.
- DAC sound chips from ESS & Cirrus Logic (ESS created the speech synthesis in Commodore games like Ghostbusters and Impossible Mission.)
- Built-in FM radio.
The website says software is developed by Jolla, newsletter does not state it is the same Sailfish OS:
We partnered with Jolla, the ex-Nokia engineering team behind Sailfish OS, to build a custom version of their operating system. It's Linux, fully open source. Some of the code even traces back to the Nokia era.
Which is interesting because Sailfish OS is proprietary with some components being open source :blobcatthinking:
If software of :commodore: Callback will be fully open source, that would make the device even more interesting!

🎉 Just dropped my first #SailfishOS app! ⛵️
It’s a simple tool to remind you of Name Days, so you can celebrate your loved ones.
First step into the @jolla ecosystem. 💪It’s open source and reusable: https://codeberg.org/hlrx/namnsdag
PS: I’m not a QT/C++ dev so I have used MistralAI to help me 🫣
