  1. Two years before the Commission started naming names, the European Parliament passed a resolution listing the design patterns it was worried about, and buried in that list is a phrase I have not been able to put down since.

    Recapture notifications.

Somebody sat down and named the category of message whose only job is to get you back. Not to tell you anything. To recapture you, like livestock.

"Your streak is about to end."

  2. Thinking about word processors and text editors written in Tiny BASIC.

    I have quite a collection.

You can see them all here:

    codeberg.org/vidak/peoples-per

Perhaps it is time to write my own.

It would be written in this:

    github.com/slviajero/tinybasic

    For this hardware:

All to be sponsored by the people's permacomputer project:

  3. Somewhat stuck, after today and tonight, working on Dandelion BASIC.

Although it does not contain multidimensional arrays, or FOR-NEXT loops, the arduino version of Tiny BASIC by Dick Whipple can do everything a simple memory limited general purpose language needs to do.

So, in a manner of speaking, my undertaking has already been done, and I am again reinventing the wheel.

From here I am not sure where to go.

I think I will sleep on it.

  4. Been working on Dandelion BASIC today.

I printed Dick Whipple's ATmega1280 code, which is a direct interpreter.

It is about 3400 lines of code, and printed on A4 paper, it comes to just over 50 pages.

From this code I am going to glean the transposed Intel 8080 ISA onto the AVR ISA with GCC # define directives.

I can also deal with the very tricky INSERT routine, which deals with adding, deleting, and replacing BASIC program lines.

  5. I'm thinking as an alternative to social media, I'll send hand-written notes along with a couple of printed photos to certain friends and family members. It might be only a few times a year, but still. I also have sent stickers to my anarchist / activist friends via snail mail in the past, which was greatly appreciated! (And I gave human artists some income in the process). Yeah, stickers and photographs. That's the way to go...!

  6. As a digital minimalist, one of the projects I've followed for some time now has been Low Tech Magazine, which has really taught me how to do more with less.

Their site runs entirely on a solar powered single-board computer. You can even see live stats while you browse, like the current battery level and uptime.

  10. Day 14 without Google — status report

Two weeks de-Googled, as phone notifications: better battery, photos safe in Immich, and one honest pain (Maps). Personal register, not ad voice.

  11. De-Google difficulty tier list

S tier takes ten minutes (search, bookmarks). A tier is a weekend (photos, drive). Mail: just use a private provider. Maps: we don't talk about maps. Honest = credible.

  12. Google flagged his account. 8 years — gone.

One automated flag, no appeal path, no human review — and 8 years of mail, photos and documents are gone. The self-hosted version of that story doesn't exist: there's no ban button for your own box.

  13. Time for an RSS/bookmarks purge and overhaul!

I am looking for great independent writers, authors, and bloggers who can be followed via RSS or on the fediverse. Preferred topics tagged below, but all recommendations are welcome!

  14. Remember when Instagram was SOCIAL?

It was about creatives showing off their talents. It was about being in the loop. It was about meeting new people who shared your interests.

I deleted Instagram, only use the website version now. I feel so free. My phone is dry AF but worth it. In fact, I've deleted every social media app from my phone.

Can't delete the account though — had it since 2010, a lot of fond memories attached to it.

  15. 🔐 GrapheneOS isn't just an Android fork—it's a privacy fortress.

Built in Canada (2014) by Daniel Micay, it's a hardened, de-Googled OS with no telemetry, no backdoors, and full user control.

Not about hiding. It's about owning your OS.

    GrapheneOS isn’t about rebellion.
It’s about the right to vanish, rebuild, and be unreachable — by default.

📱 Real privacy starts beneath the interface.

  16. 👉 Before you download any app, ask yourself:

📜 Have you actually read what the developer says about data collection and sharing?

Most users scroll past permissions — but that’s where the real surveillance begins.

    🔍 Awareness is defense.

  17. They named it Threads.
But every thread is a wire — tracing your thoughts, location, voice, and silence.

    Behind the shine:
    🧠 Behavior mapping
    🎯 Targeted manipulation
    🕵️‍♂️ Cross-platform tracking
    📎 Identity harvesting

    I don’t scroll. I study.
    I don’t post. I observe.
    I don’t follow. I disappear.

    Threads won’t catch me.
    Because I was never there.
