  1. #HotTake: the #AppleVision / #AppleVisionPro is failing because the market for high-end #VR Headsets is already oversaturated, and virtually all other players have an established library of #apps and uses, and proven compatibility with either #SteamLink / #WiVRn or #Monado and whatever Windows uses for #PCVR. Even with the #iOS compatibility, you just don't have a reason to buy a $1000+ headset just to hold a virtual #iPad / #iPhone when you likely already own a real one, and unlike cheaper headsets it just doesn't offer many experiences that the average user is going to pay that for.

A new headset line would take way more than #Apple seems willing to invest, especially this late in #VirtualReality #technology's cycle.

That said, there's definitely still a market for something cheap and easy, like a "Quest Lite", something that is made to hook to a lower-end #gaming computer's GPU and run stuff like tracking and reprojection locally, but doesn't necessarily have the power for anything substantial.

  8. OST8 dropped for #beatsaber on #pcvr today!*

It's a lot of fun, and visually the best one yet. It's 6 tracks like the last 4 were but they're all pretty varied in terms of difficulty and style. It's got Camellia, Dragonforce, Lindsay Sterling and Teminite x Boom Kitty who have been my consistent faves since OST 4.

The new mechanics gimmick was the one teased in the free song we got earlier in the year - Danger by Teminite x Boom Kitty: Variable note speed. And oh boy, does The Master make use of it for pure evil in his sequel track.

For a brief, beautiful moment I was #1 and K was #2 on the leaderboard for the Lindsay Sterling song (see pic). I bet that lasted all of 5 minutes.

*It dropped for other platforms last week but AMD's latest crashfest driver update delayed the launch while it got fixed. AMD can't seem to avoid stepping on obvious rakes...

  9. Inside the sphere: How Eight360 is revolutionising virtual training and immersive simulation

Virtual reality has long pushed the boundaries of simulation, but New Zealand’s Eight360 has taken immersion to an entirely new orbit. Its groundbreaking NOVA platform – a fully motion-controlled, transparent sphere – delivers true physical sensation and haptic feedback for users navigating complex virtual environments for NZ Defense Force. Now, that same technology is being deployed by Texas A&M University’s ASTRO Lab, where researchers are developing ultra high-fidelity, physically accurate simulations of the Moon and Mars.
