Guess What Day It Is?
Castrovel Woodsy Wednesday!
Artist: Krisahe (deviantart)How far does lashunta symbiosis go? We've discussed how they share their memories with the sacred milktrees, who grow them into a gestalt consciousness. Yet at what point to the lashunta not merely share minds, but also bodies?
Is there a possibility to physically merge with the trees? What does mean for things like dryads and ents?

Naturally, I'm also looking at this a bit through the lens of fictional #worldbuilding and trying to piece together the rational leaders of different polities have for this. Be it preservation or rewarding allies, "ease of doing business", or various ideological concerns.

Go Back the Arium Complete Box Set!
I spent most of yesterday running errands off-island and at the DMV. That sucked because I was away during the initial launch of something I’m very excited about: my pals over at Adept Icarus’ launched the incredible Arium Complete Box Set Kickstarter! Seriously, before you keep reading, go back it. Trust me. You’ll thank me later.
At its core, Arium is a collaborative toolkit for cooperative worldbuilding from designers Asha Ence, Drew Gerken, and Will Munn. (Who are all a delight.) It’s an easy-to-learn, powerful, system-agnostic toolkit designed for tabletop gaming groups, but honestly it extends far beyond gaming. Want to write in a shared universe with your pals? Making a video game with friends? Writing a screenplay with colleagues? Arium’s tools are designed to help you create your setting together and unite everyone around common themes, goals, and set pieces. Those tools have only expanded since its initial release. With this Kickstarter, Adept Icarus is combining its first two books, Create and Discover, with its new third book, Evolve, in a complete box set. (With a few extra-special goodies.)
Evolve expands the Arium toolset. It empowers groups to create maps together, explore character relationships, build the story in between the stories by determining events during characters’ downtime, and craft the gray area between truth and rumors that float through a setting. It is the perfect cap to an already powerful system and really rounds out the whole Arium experience.
And, of course, there are a bunch of bonuses. The basic box set comes with all the Arium books, and a bunch of handy quick reference cards, AND… two four-fold adventures/runs/one-shots. The first is A Match of Blood & Tears a romantic intrigue about a missing vampire influencer written by Steffie de Vaan and the second is… wait, hmm—[checks notes]—why… IT’S FROM ME.
That’s right! I wrote (and I’m also illustrating and designing) a little system-agnostic adventure called Ol’ Marsh’s Manor of Mirrors. It’s a little creepy, charmingly tropey, occasionally funny, and rooted in cosmic horror. I think you and your table would love it. It’s designed for flexibility and can be as long or as short as you want. I’m quite proud of it and excited that it’ll be included with the Arium Complete Box Set. As the staff at the Manor like to say, “You can’t escape fun!”
There are other tier levels as well, some unlocking new settings. Thesystem and Arcadia—where Ol’ Marsh is set—are both a must have, in my opinion. All serve to further expanding Arium’s tools to make your experience even more streamlined no matter what rule set/system you use. So, if all that sounds interesting, and if you want to wander the reflective mazes of Ol’ Marsh’s Manor of Mirrors, then head on over to Kickstarter and back us. (Then tell your friends.)
Oh, and when visiting, remember: “Do not feed the pelicans.”

#worldbuilding #offcuts around bathing:
Stagnant water is considered poisonous and the source of disease so all bathing must be done in moving water, with more motion being believed to bring the most benefit. Waterfalls are the optimal bathing experience while a bath is considered vile.

Worldbuilding note from the Digital Dryad universe: the Prime is a forest that runs on connection the way a network runs on cable—everything talking to everything else invisibly, constantly. Which makes the loneliest possible thing inside it a tree nobody answers. #WritingCommunity #FantasyBooks #Worldbuilding

Ah ... the tribulation of the rpg designer. We all know that there is a expectation of combat in "standard" rpgs, especially fantasy ones. Muderhobo is an apt expression, so now I'm sitting here and mulling when sketching out a Drakar och Demoner (Dragonbane for you foreign lot) campaign ...and I want it to not be a genocidal-massmurder-orgy of people for glory and money ... but still having the occasional skirmish and a couple of satisfying boss battles.
Soooo, mindless undeads are fair game ... and demons, I guess, buut I don't want to make them too common.
So I arrive att the common target for PC frustrations ... orc (or in Swedish orch, sounds better, like it's German 😜) .
There have been a trend to normalise them and bring them into the fold of "normal2 people the last few decades instead of just existing for target practise, and that is fine by me ... IF they actually are "normal" people, with culture and emotions and have cute offsprings.
But what if they weren't? I saw some discussions years ago in the OSR sphere about having them be more of massproduced magical constructs and that, I think, is more in line with (we can't dodge his name) how Tolkien envisioned them.
So that is what I probably aim for, a necromantic-demonic construct who's creation demands sacrificing humans and existence in general is ethically challenging and a problem to be solved for any upstanding PC in the vicinity.
(I'm thinking about getting inspired by the Coloss creation from Mistborn)

CW: nudity? (topless, no genitals in image, but post goes a bit into gender/sex department)
maybe ill finish it heres a screenshot of a sketch (too lazy to export)
drawing of a humanoid species' median individual, said people lived in isolation for a long time but due to nature of their biology (they have a functional set of a penis and a vagina, but also it's likely for them to be born infertile, plus at some point there enters the risk of incestuous offspring) they are forced to assimilate to human cultures
because of their long isolation they haven't been exposed to the ideas like human sexual dimorphism and multiple genders, which means they might be clumsy about social issues that come with it such as gender inequality, which generates misunderstandings - most of the isolated ones don't intend to be malicious, some do, and this makes humans unite against them and just develop a new form of bigotry ("those barbarians are bigoted unlike us enlightened humans")
which in turn forces them back into isolation and also bars the modern people of this group from opportunities to be able to coexist and assimilate
yes i am playing dollhouse i like making up scenarios and making them perfect model citizens would be boring as fuck

#worldbuilding #offcuts around pets:
Pets are held as a communal resource, no one has a personal pet. Instead there's a large number of publicly cared for pets that get shuffled around in the community depending on who has a particular need.
