  1. IF YOU MISSED IT....

A poor man's recreation of Wednesday's solar eclipse - which version is more rare?

  2. Wait! That was it …??!!

I SHOULD OPEN BY STATING THAT Ceeteejackson.com IS THE SOLE AUTHORIZED HOME OF MY WRITING.

As far as providing disappointment goes, Scotland certainly doesn’t disappoint.

There I was, sat in my garden, beers at the ready, counting down the minutes. I’d bought into the hype. which had been building since the previous evening. I hadn’t however bought a pair of ‘special’ glasses. Are you kidding? Did you see the price some places were charging?

No, The next solar eclipse visible here in the UK, and only a partial one at that, is not until August 2nd next year. The next total eclipse won’t occur until 23rd September 2090. I’ll be 132 by then and if I can still see my way to the bathroom, never mind the happenings of 93 million miles away, I’ll be doing well.

I had read though, you could view the eclipse through a colander. I obviously didn’t read the magazine article all the way through. Even so, I should have realised that looking at the sun through such a kitchen utensil would only lead to straining of the eyes. (Boom boom! 😂)

I watched later on television how people from other parts of the UK ‘ooohed’ and ‘aaahhed’ as the moon crossed in front of the sun; how darkness enveloped the landscape; how confused birds went to bed early without preparing supper.

Scotland? Well, certainly around the Glasgow area … nothing!

    90% eclipse: 100% anticlimax.

The clouds hung heavy in the sky, obscuring the sun, moon and heavens. It was already dull and gloomy as the supposedly magical and mystical moment arrived. Pretty much as normal, I’d have said.

The local birds didn’t seem that fussed. The only things confused were my patio lights which came on for a couple of minutes before sensing I could manage without them as the moon moved away from the sun.

Oh well, I’m used to this anticlimatic messing with my mind. As Scots, there are some things we do better than others. And ‘disappointment’ is one of them.

Scotland promises so much, but often falls slightly short on delivery.

Think back just a couple of months. We were all in buoyant mood as our football headed to USA for the World Cup. We didn’t honestly think we’d win the damned thing, but although we beat Haiti (whoop-de-woo!) any far-fetched hope was soon eclipsed when dull performances against Morocco and Brazil had us heading home a week later.

And look at our beaches! Some of those are truly glorious. Especially so on the north-west coast. You could film a Bounty (chocolate and coconut bar) advert on them … if it weren’t for the dreich weather.

We even have our own monster – the Loch Ness one. Except, it fails to appear any time there’s an official expedition to track it down.

Ah well. One good thing about forever considering our glass half empty is it shows we’ve at least enjoyed 50% already.

In Scotland, it’s not ‘the hope that kills us,’ but ‘the hope that keeps us alive.’

    😂

I made this audio collage about #ChatControl using Beethoven's "Ode To Joy", a sample from The Simpsons and quotes by Edward Snowden.

The European anthem played on the heavily out of tune guitar is inspired by Jimi Hendrix' version of the US anthem and is representing how chat control damages European values.

  8. LinkedIn CringeBot 3000, generating AI slop of the best quality

Since the volume of slop-in-general is of epidemic proportions on the platform, it makes perfect sense an AI agent write actual AI slop for consumption there.

  10. Fascinant. Merci, Arnaud, d'avoir fait l’exercice. Je serais curieux de voir ces mêmes jokes par un humoriste moins connu.
