  1. I love seeing that Thief Gold was added to GOG's Preservation Program. While I'm very hyped for the upcoming Nightdive remaster, it's nice to know that we'll still be able to play and enjoy the non-remastered version for years to come.

This was my entry into stealth games and to this day, it's one of my all-time favorite 90s PC games!

Also, it's on sale for $1.75, I recommend grabbing it before the remaster.

  5. With the recent news that #Microsoft marks each machine running #Windows with a "global device id" ( #GDID ) that it stores and uses for profiling even before any request is made from law enforcement, I'm again exploring moving my personal PCs to linux. Last night I installed #CachyOS on my #Lenovo #laptop which went smoothly. I'll test out #games tonight. I also deleted the last bit of data I stored in #OneDrive. I've been running #Nextcloud for years now and am confident in my own data integrity/access/backups, etc.

I'll add that I don't think the particular hacker caught by the FBI with the help of Microsoft is justified in his actions. It seems he is justly accused of crimes. But the mechanism of an OS so secretly logging your locations and actions has just become too much.

  10. 🔌 The "Layer 1" Disaster is here.

Why are we connecting $2000 GPUs and 4K 240Hz OLEDs with cables that physically cannot handle the bandwidth?

In our latest deep dive on Rational Tech, we dismantle the DisplayPort 2.1 "80Gbps" commercial scam. We look at why passive copper is hitting a hard physical limit beyond 2 meters due to skin-effect and dielectric losses. Stop troubleshooting your drivers, your infrastructure is the bottleneck.

  15. For the last two decades, I've been on the hunt for a custom RCT2 park that I played on an old PC, but couldn't ever find it. I couldn't remember the name of the park, but I knew that I was astonished by how well-made it was. It had a Greek theme to it, with lots of whites and blues in the color palette.

    I just found it!

It's called "Acropolis Revisited". I absolutely cannot wait to dive back into this park!

  19. One of the games that formulated my childhood was Star Wars: Rebel Assault II.

It's an on-rails shooter and not particularly amazing in terms of design, acting or CGI, but it stood right next to the original trilogy, building my earliest memories of Star Wars.

The sense of Star Wars atmosphere was spot on, and it placed you right into a story that FELT like one of the movies, yet didn't share any of their plots.

  26. Lately, I've been playing a bit of Torment: Tides of Numenera, and I'm not sure why this didn't get more love from classic cRPG fans.

It's made by inXile (founded by the legendary Brian Fargo of Interplay fame) and truly does feel like an appropriate spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment. Incredible lore/writing, an immensely appealing GUI, seemingly great characters... it really does have it all :guilded_shrug:

Absolutely insane news. Ultima is THE grandfather of the modern computer RPG, alongside Might & Magic and Wizardry. Having this series back in its' creator's hands and possibly getting some new titles in the series would be outstanding!

  37. It's no secret I love retro PC games, particularly for MS-DOS and early Windows... but if there's one thing I really don't like about games from this era, it's the fact that running them on modern displays does one of two things:

    1. The image is rendered low-res and pixellated (to an unpleasant degree) and stretched to fit modern resolutions.

    or

    2. Running in modern resolutions makes the menus, text, or FOV look really tiny.
