  1. I helped Capital Region Land Conservancy to document the prescribed burn at Varina LandLab. Goals of the burn are to improve wildlife habitat, reduce tick populations, and continue to manage the property to promote a pine savannah habitat.

  6. Who says cats don't like to get wet? Well, okay, she was forced into the water by some lionesses from a rival pride that morning. But these lions of the Okavango are constantly dealing with water all around them. I've never seen them take to the water like, say, a jaguar, swimming for miles at a time. But they seem to make it work.

  7. After catching a salmon in a river, bears walk to the forest to eat it. They eat the fatty parts of the fish such as the brain, skin and eggs. The rest of the fish feeds birds, insects, invertebrates, and trees.

  12. A few days ago, a powerful storm came through the area and since then, we have not seen the adult male hummingbird. We don't know if he started his migration south with the storm or if he was killed. All the juveniles are still here and a juvenile male has taken over his perch, guarding the nectar feeder. The King is dead, long live the King. #birds #birding #birdwatching #birdphotography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #photography #nature #naturephotography #HoosierMast

  13. First afternoon out at Duba Plains camp last summer, and all was pretty quiet. Then we came around a corner late in the afternoon and this little cutie and his mom were just chilling on a tree. We stayed with them for about an hour until we lost the light, and had a great encounter.
