When the sun comes out, so do the butterflies :-)

Earlier today, this Comma spent a long time feeding from the Buddleja in my garden.

You can see how it got its name; the second photo shows the white comma-shaped mark on its under-wing. The wing veins are prominent in the third photo, and its spiral proboscis in the fourth.

Purple and orange is a great combination, I think.

A lovely orange visitor. We see gulf fritillaries in late summer and early autumn - they're native here. I really should plant some passionflowers for them to lay their eggs on.

I just came in from outside after walking with Charlie. The AC guy is here checking out our HVAC systems—one for the house and one for my wife’s little quilting shop. We try to stay ahead of things instead of waiting for something to fail. So far it’s paid off; we’ve gotten about fifteen good years out of the home unit with no issues… knock on wood. Summer days without AC in Louisiana are no joke. I don’t blame the AC guys for coming early in the morning—our inside unit sits up in the attic, and that place turns into an oven by midday.

It should start cooling soon, but not today. Down on the toolbar at the bottom of my computer screen, a little message pops up announcing, “Hot days ahead,” like it’s sending me a warning straight from the future.

I’m sitting here with my feet propped on the corner of my desk while Charlie is stretched out at the base of my chair—pretty much a perfect snapshot of our daily life. Around the house and on the property, if you find me, you find Charlie, and vice versa. Even in the evenings, when I wander into the kitchen looking for something to snack on, Charlie is right there beside me, like two conspirators ready to divvy up the loot.

That’s right—me and Charlie. We be mates. Friends till the end.

I think I’ll end this here. Lately I haven’t felt much inspiration when I sit down to write, so I just drift into whatever’s happening right in front of me. Like the Roomba, currently bumping its way down the hall making all kinds of noise. It’s a Skynet conspiracy.
