#Skinks are no very tiny #lizards (#Squamata). The #ongoing #discoveries of even larger #new animal and plant #species like this new species from China indicate that #biodiversityresearch is indeed internationally on its good way to counteract the motto " too #manyspecies too #littletime". The ongoing #awareness of #biodiversity research as important part of understanding and counteractung the effects of the increasing human made #globalwarming is a crucial step.

More pretty mushrooms from the Pierce Road, Harvard Forest. As my fungal identification skills are minimal, they must remain nameless.

Going with the grain: how restoring biodiversity led one farmer back to heritage wheat

'Thinning' native forest and wildlife: 'Logging by another name'
"Scrutiny over WA government's decision to 'eco-thin' landmark South West forests."
"These forests, globally recognised biodiversity hotspots, were clear-felled by loggers for almost 200 years, until native logging was banned entirely in 2024."
"A South West landowner says contractors are ripping up trees without thought, and an independent scientist argues there is no scientific basis for the practice...It does not seem like much has changed from the preceding years of native logging. They don't care about the environment; [the contractors] are just ripping up trees for money."
"Almost 146,000 hectares of state forests and timber reserves have been earmarked as potentially suitable for ecological thinning."
A globally acknowledged expert in conservation biology and landscape ecology, Professor Lindenmayer said there was limited scientific evidence to support ecological thinning. The reality is that forests have been in Australia for about 180 million years and that means that people haven't been messing with them for 179,930 years, and they've survived very well … without those kinds of interventions." >>

"#NayakrishiAndolon, literally means New Agricultural Movement led by #farmingcommunities, is an innovative practice of #biodiversity -based #ecological #agriculture. The immediate goal is to resist the economic and technological processes that is turning the earth into barren fields and industrial deserts. At the community level the goal is to innovate strategies of survival by attaining seed and #foodsovereignty co-creating with nature life-affirming environment, ecology and the rich genetic base of #Bangladesh. Understanding farming as engaging sensuously with nature and submission of our faculties to the joyful metabolic process between human beings and external world is known in Nayakrishi as 'Shohoj' ways to 'Ananda'. Nayakrishi dissolves the barrier between abstract knolwedge and actual living and highlights the joy of life."

“According to the U.N., an estimated 40 percent of the world’s lands are degraded, largely from neglect, drought and over-grazing, meaning they’re less able to hold water and sequester carbon.
Restoring these lands could yield enormous benefits for food production, drought mitigation and carbon storage.”

💁🏻♀️ TIL: 🎸🐍 Scientists named a newly described #NewGuinea groundsnake, "Lielaphis slashi", after Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, for his love of #reptiles.
Herpetologist Chris Austin first spotted the 71 cm (28 in) snake during nighttime fieldwork in 2006. Genetic and ecological analysis confirmed it as a distinct #species, supporting #conservation in New Guinea’s threatened #forests.
