📰 Record Turtle Nesting Boom in North Carolina
🌎 Northern Outer Banks, NC: Sea turtles are having a banner year with 56 nests, the most since counting began in 2009. Hatchlings are already making their tiny‑tire‑track dash to the ocean.
🐢 Volunteers from NEST patrol 60 miles of beach daily, protecting loggerheads, greens, Kemp’s ridleys, and even a rare leatherback visitor. 🐢🐢🐢

Your basic Green Frog, Lithobates clamitans (or Rana clamitans, the older name, which I prefer, but the frog doesn't care), in an artificial pond in Barre, Massachusetts. Why do they keep changing the names? I think it's DNA sequencing, taxonomic research, evolution, and all of that stuff.
We shall just call it "Frog." This one was pretty calm. I was about 2 inches away taking a picture with my iPhone, and it didn't budge.

We now have 5 Black Swallowtail caterpillars on the garden Fennel. We collected them and have sacrificed more Fennel so that the cats (to use the cool/nerdy lepidopterist's slang for caterpillars) are now ensconced in a luxurious cage for observation. We thus hope to guide them on their journey to butterfly-hood.

The #ongoing #discoveries of even larger #new animal and plant #species like this new species from China indicate that #biodiversityresearch is indeed internationally on its good way to counteract the motto " too #manyspecies too #littletime". The ongoing #awareness of #biodiversity research as important part of understanding and counteractung the effects of the increasing human made #globalwarming is a crucial step.
