(edit- mystery solved! It's the radicle). This is a water germination for a 2025 Venus Flytrap seed harvest and most everything looks correct as best I can tell for the seeds in the first picture (seed sprout and what appears to be mycorrhizal fungus filaments) but the second picture shows something I can't identify (the pink thing with fuzzy legs). Seed size is about 1cm. These are the best pics I could get from my setup. Does anyone recognize this?

Now we have evidence that #prototaxites are not part of the #fungi kingdom, as they are clearly chemically distinct. Pointing towards them not being a genus, but belonging to their own distinct kingdom. The #classification of #life is fascinating, and an exciting endeavour.

Bird's Nest #Fungi (family Nidulariaceae) growing in our garden bark mulch. The various species produce fruiting bodies that look exactly like tiny bird's nests. These here are about 1/4 inch across. The "eggs" are called peridioles (not profiteroles; that's a French pastry) and contain spores. When a raindrop hits the nest the peridioles spring away and disperse the spores.
