FLEX is in orbit! 🛰️🌿

From Kourou’s control room, Prof. Uwe Rascher followed the launch of ESA’s FLEX satellite. Soon after, he messaged Jülich: “FLEX has already sent its first sign of life to the control centre.” 📡

Jülich researchers have helped shape the mission since 2015 and will now help validate its data. FLEX will map photosynthetic activity worldwide and show how vegetation responds to heat and drought. 🌍🌱

well, the #manufacturing and #recycling of these #photosynthesis facilities, however, is appealing. They #grow and #compost. Also sunlight mostly isn't the limiting factor and: it's free!

Edit: some even taste good!

I had a friend once who said eating was a chore; that if he could live off an IV drip, he would. I was horrified. Food is life. Unlike plants, we must obtain organic molecules and energy through eating. But, life gets busy, so I see his logic. If anyone has seen that post please link it back here. I clicked the Apply to be a Beta Tester link and was accepted within a half hour. It is going to be most outstanding!

I got the acceptance email and had to re-install TestFlight to use it. Then I found the camera app in the list and installed immediately. With literally only about 6 screenshots to demo how it works, I used it right away. Very intuitive.

It gives you a lot of control how you want to use it. I took my first shot outdoors and after the 3 automatic photos were processed together, the before and after comparison view was stunning for clarity. I can read a license plate on a car 6 houses down. Handheld shot.

Then I came in living room to sit in recliner about 14’ from a bookshelf in the dim corner. This time I selected for Quality and chose Flash. When done I have 3 different images— all from one click. And I can read every book title.

I’m sure as a tester I’m not supposed to share my photos but I am keeping copies in an album. This app will be vital for many uses, especially documenting details. If you use iPhone, highly recommend you apply to be a tester.

Despite the reduced leaf area, the remaining undamaged berries should mature normally because the leaves will work harder to ensure ripening (commercial grapevines typically have more leaf area than needed)
