  6. Herpetologists are calling for greater inclusion of amphibians in African conservation planning, in a recent letter published in the journal Science. The researchers note that amphibians — frogs, salamanders and caecilians — are especially important as early-warning detectors of ecological disruption, given their sensitivity to pathogens, thermal stress, pollution and hydrological changes in their wetland habitats.

  11. I'm sending this photo & location, where I spotted it, to Invasive Species Council of BC. I'm not a frogs expert & am not sure if this is one of the introduced, invasive, green #frogs.

  13. You’d think with all the wildlife I have at my house, Red Efts would be a common occurrence. They aren’t. I have yet to see one (and let’s face it, they aren’t hard to see 😅) here at the house or in the neighboring forests for miles.

I was several towns away when I finally came across this one. (You can tell it was happy for the photo op as it just sat there as they’re prone to do.)

  18. Breeding program gives endangered frog with 'baritone' call a fighting chance
    By Danielle Pope

Scientists hope the successful captive breeding and release of the endangered Watson's tree frog in Victoria's far east will help aid the species' survival, after its habitat was decimated during the Black Summer bushfires.

  19. I'm pleased to report I have learned how to spot frogs. And that's no small thing. Their camoflague can be so good that they vanish while you're looking directly at them. It's genuinely astonishing.

  24. The beavers have been busy in our creek! They've built four dams now, each of them a lovely bit of engineering.

The frogs are enjoying this growing wetland. There are thousands of tadpoles wriggling about. Possibly they're hatching from eggs inside the jelly-like blobs we see in the mud beside the creek?

  32. 🥾 We hiked past a water impoundment that is usually disruptive to a mountaintop environment, but this one was full of salamanders!

🦎 These amphibians prefer cold, clean, running water as in pristine streams. This pond had to be relatively undisturbed.

📷 I stayed still and got a pic of a Spotted Salamander as it floated into a sunny spot. Love the orange spots!
