  1. “Robber Fly”

    Is that close enough? 😅

Though it doesn't look like a standard fly, the Robber Fly is actually a fly.

The sheer size of the insect can alarm people unfamiliar with it, but the loud buzzing it creates by furiously beating its wings can be more disturbing.

Flying insects like wasps, bees, beetles, and even other flies are all…

  5. Presenting: THE #CAMBRIANSMACKDOWN! A silly Tumblr style bracket. I will create a series of polls to determine which screwy looking Cambrian era critter is perceived as the coolest on Mastodon!
Polls will start at 7 days long.
Depending on how well-received this is, the polls may shorten in length.
Polls coming soon. Enjoy. This thread will be for bracket updates rather than the polls.

  6. Mighty #Anomalocaris stirs, spreading dust and terror throughout the #Cambrian sea. #Opabinia, #Hallucigenia, #Pikaia, #Canadia, #Burgessia, #Marella, and #Elrathia can only hope the rocks and ridges they cover behind will hide them.

Inspired by a display at the Naturkunde Museum Stuttgart that perfectly showed off the difference in size between Cambrian critters. At 40 cm, Anomalocaris was a leviathan.
