> Spain has launched an innovative floating offshore solar project that not only generates electricity but also converts seawater into drinking water
> According to a post by Engineering Facts (@engineering.facts_), the floating solar farm near Gran Canaria produces 85 megawatts of renewable electricity while using that same power to operate reverse osmosis systems that desalinate seawater on-site.

Dendrobium speciosum variations starting to flower this week (client's garden). This widespread orchid is common on rocky outcrops around my Tilba Tilba home but not sure I've seen a lot out in the wild yet so far this year.

Gothamist: An otter, a beaver — and now a mink spotted in the Bronx. “A week after announcing his camera trap had captured the first otter in the Bronx River in a century, a local wildlife researcher was surprised to see a new face in his lens: an American mink.”

Yellow Bellied Sand Snake
This is a very fast snake! One must have very quick hands to catch one of them, that is for sure. This one was coming along, in the opposite direction, on a game path I was following. Usually they are gone in a flash, this guy seemed more curious than scared.
I took a few close up photos, from those took these below, and cut out the background. NOT AI!!!! GIMP.
Here are a few facts about this little animal taken from The African Snakebite Institute
Full Name: Western Yellow-bellied Sand Snake (Psammophis subtaeniatus)
Other Names: Stripe-bellied Sand Snake, Westelike Geelpenssandslang, Westelike Streeppenssandslang
Classification: MILDLY VENOMOUS
Map indicating the distribution of the Western Yellow-bellied Sand Snake in Southern Africa.
A fast-moving, slender snake that averages 50-80 cm. This snake is active during the day and is without doubt one of our fastest snakes. It is fond of basking but will move off rapidly if disturbed. It is comfortable in trees and shrubs.
Big Five Wars is my main mission for now and they also get updated regularly.

The Rhizophagy Cycle: How plants get nutrients from microbes | James F. White (2021)
Plant/microbe symbiosis; the microbes act like worker ants for the plant and they guide root hairs to nutrients. They literally go inside the plant and come back out again.

Sun orchid (Thelymitra sp.) and onion orchid (Microtis sp.) growing together on the edge of Corymbia maculata forest near Corunna, NSW (spring 2025).
This semi-cleared location is a local orchid 'hot-spot' (at least for Corunna!) with beard orchids (Calochilus) also found here in spring. However it is also on privately-owned land which has changed hands since last season and might be more developed this year. So hopefully any works there will not damage the orchids - which will already be battling the very dry local conditions this year!

💁🏻♀️ TIL: 🔥🌲 More than 75% of #US #wildfires are started by people, through negligence, downed power lines, or arson, according to federal #data.
The growing wildland-urban interface turns more of us into ignition sources, while #climatechange dries out fuels and extends #fire season. It grounds the pattern in the #Spokane Old Trails Fire and the arrest of a man accused of setting dozens of blazes.
