#Dragonflies and #damselflies (order Odonata) are capable of extreme, long-distance migrations across continents and open oceans, representing a massive but largely unseen global movement of biomass.

I'm looking for the #book by Charles S Elton entitled "Animal Ecology and Evolution" (Clarendon Press, @oxunipress, 1930).
Do you know where I can find a digital version? Do you have a paper copy? Any suggestion would be appreciated! - boosts & RT are also appreciated!

Always surprised by these #evolutionaryecology articles that pretend ecology doesn't treat evolutionary feedbacks. There is an entire domain of ecology devoted to considering how species shape their environments ("engineer" species). Negative feedback is presented as stabilizing, but there are articles that show the contrary (Pigolotti et al. 2007,etc.). New paths can't be built without solid epistemological analysis.

@serge A fine achievement in creating & managing a Mastodon instance for the #Jewdiverse. I am currently on #ecoevo.social because of my background in #EvolutionaryEcology but also descendant of #Jewish #refugees from #Austria in 1939.

I landed on #mastodon with my first-ever publication! A little about warning signaling 🔴⚠️and parental care on poison frogs ☠️🐸 #EECO # cienciacriolla #paperalert #EvolutionaryEcology https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10682-022-10219-z

I am Curator of Birds at the University of Alaska Museum and a Professor in the Department of Biology & Wildlife at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I work on #ornithology #evolution #speciation #populationgenetics #genomics #collections #specimens #evolutionaryecology #Beringia #pathogens and...
In our research group we primarily use a specimen-based approach. It’s an exciting time to be a biologist. Glad to see so many interesting colleagues and discussions on this site.

I never got round to writing an #introduction, so here goes:
I am a #postdoc on #TheGuppyProject, which is a #LongTermStudy looking at stream ecosystems in Trinidad.
I am interested in #EvolutionaryEcology, in particular #LifeHistories and fluctuating dynamics.
I use field data, mescosm experiments, and models to try to understand ecological and evolutionary dynamics in the wild.

#introduction: I'm a scientist at #CSIC, Spain, interested in the #ecology & #evolution of fire-prone #ecosystems, & more generally, in disturbance ecology. I aim to understanding the role of #fire and other #disturbances in shaping species, populations, #communities, #landscapes, #biomes, & the #biosphere.

Hi tooters, time for a belated #introduction.
I work on the #EvolutionaryEcology of host-parasite interactions using #Malaria as a model system. I mostly work on #AvianMalaria, but I occasionally dabble in human and #RodentMalaria.
I’m particularly interested in exploring the genetic and environmental sources of heterogeneity in parasite #Virulence and within-host dynamics. Also keen on #DrugResistance and parasite #PhenotypicPlasticity. Oh, and #Mosquitos, obviously 😎

Hi everyone!
I am an Assoc Prof at #UArizona #UofAEEB in Tucson. The #DlugoschLab studies #EvolutionaryEcology and ecological #Genomics
of #plants, especially #InvasiveSpecies and most recently #UrbanEcology.I am looking forward to chatting about science, plants, and other random stuff!

Some years ago I worked on data from the #StKilda #SoaySheepProject a long-running study of #EvolutionaryEcology in a large animal population. These particular animals are no longer there but their descendants are, and the research project continues. Are any current participants on #ecoevo.social or other federated servers here?

@KorinnaAllhoff This is similar to the aims of my DPhil and first postdoctoral research, but since that was in the 1980s to 1990s you have the advantage of better computing resources (and greater academic understanding). I admire the continuing progress in these fields #TheoreticalEcology #EvolutionaryEcology #EcologicalNetworks #ComplexSystems #AdaptiveDynamics
