  1. APPARENTLY I NEED TO
    DECLARE MY POLITICS? 💎

After several days of talking about AI, I’ve discovered something peculiar.

PEOPLE KEEP TELLING ME WHAT I BELIEVE.

Because I use AI and believe it isn’t going away, apparently I must be pro-America, pro-corporation, unconcerned about climate change and indifferent to job losses.

That would be news to me.

I AM NOT ON TEAM AMERICA. I AM NOT ON TEAM CHINA. I AM NOT ON TEAM OPENAI. AND I AM NOT ON TEAM “BURN THE MACHINES.”

Politically, I’m interested in human beings before ideologies.

I distrust concentrated power, whether it sits in governments, corporations, billionaires or technology. Climate change matters. Surveillance matters. Copyright matters. Employment, inequality and resource consumption matter. Powerful corporations should be regulated and held accountable.

But I refuse to make reality fit my politics. AI has costs. AI also has benefits. I know because I am one of the people benefiting from it. I’m 70, disabled by a major stroke, paralysed on my left side and have the use of one hand. Typing is difficult. Voice is easy. AI helps me write, communicate, investigate and remain more independent.

THAT IS NOT A THEORY ABOUT AI. THAT IS MY LIFE.

If your politics says that benefit doesn’t count because another technology theoretically could do the same thing, then it has lost sight of the human being in front of it.

And then there is the vitriol. I’ve been insulted, patronised, told what my politics and values supposedly are, and subjected to crude personal remarks because I won’t adopt someone else’s position on AI. That isn’t an argument. It’s hostility.

I’m happy to disagree. I’ll listen and change my mind when persuaded. But contempt does not earn access to me. So sometimes I reply. Sometimes I say nothing. Sometimes I block people who make personal attacks about my disability, politics or use of AI.

That isn’t censorship. People remain free to say whatever they like. They just don’t get to say it in my ear. And my China post was not cheering for China or America. Saying both will continue developing strategically important AI is an observation.

“This is happening” and “I want this to happen” are completely different sentences.

Regulate AI. Challenge it. Expose its environmental costs. Protect workers, artists and privacy. Question the bastards building it.

    AND COUNT THE BENEFITS TOO.

I don’t need AI to be good or evil, and I don’t need everybody to agree with me. I just need the conversation to remain human and impersonal.

  6. If you use #AI at this point, you should be the one dying of #ClimateChange

Go huff #datacenter fumes or drink oil, idc... something to speed it up.

If your job was to literally burn 55 gallon drums of oil into the air, would I give a shit if your entire industry/career crumbled to dust and took you with it? Fuck no.

Having #slop shoved in my face every fucking day… Every phone call, every web search, every piece of software I thought I liked and found useful… I'm not being the rude one here.

    Not sure that it matters.
AI in its current form (not the technology itself but the unchecked consumption of precious resources - especially energy and water, and to a lesser extent investment) will likely be the trigger for achieving unrecoverable #ClimateChange. No country/civilisation, big or small, wealthy or poor, progressive or ‘conservative’, democratic or dictatorial, will be able to flourish [survive?].
Unchecked investment and utilization of AI will be the nail in the coffin of ‘civilisation’ [if what we are experiencing globally can be truly described as such].
The #ClimateCrisis is accelerating. It is THE most critical threat, not just to human kind, but to most living things on our gasping planet.
It is almost past time for us to wake the fuck up.
