  5. Our house insurance with Intact jumped from $1400 last year, to $1950 - when we moved here in 2018 it was $790

We searched around for the same coverage and deductible - BCAA, TD Bank, etc. all $300-$500 more expensive

    This is grift

And the 1st amendment in mairikkka has been functionally dead for so long

So for 18+ months mairikkkans have been without reliable 1 4 10 and 14 amendments.

    Still, no ruckus.

I expect the c/a/n/a/d/a project will have similar democracy-end police powers soon, despite our merely 44 year old Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

I'm looking for a 25% wealth tax/year on families worth more than $200m, dropping to 5% when they're down to $78m.

California is pondering a 1-time 5% tax on families worth us$1.1b. 60% of NY residents (not just NYC) favour free, universal childcare until pre-K, with an explicit tax on the rich to fund it.

So, I want wayyy more, to end the 1%.

Yeah and with ConLiberal pm #carney and his sick draconian legislation, the c/a/n/a/d/a project gets to be all fascist too, which will help his latest thing...the #CarneyDoctrine to help #makeamericagreatagain, because #elbowsup was always just marketing.

  21. @tod I mean well done to you and Jocelyn, but talking to a ward manager today at NRGH, they are hemorrhaging nurses and care aides still and she figured by fall beds would be closing

  25. Our son has been on the sixth floor ward in Nanaimo hospital for over 3 weeks now - supposed to be max 36 beds with 2 nurses and 2 care aides on each of the 2 wings

It's 49 patients, with only one nurse and one care aide per wing

There are post surgical seniors in soiled diapers waiting hours for assistance

My wife who is a nurse does all his care every day

  29. So now the B.C. Conservatives hate the term “First Nation” because…..? They want to go back to calling them “Indians”?

    What is their problem? 🤦‍♂️

Glad First Nations aren’t putting up with it, and even some B.C. Conservative MLAs are saying their leader should focuse on actual issues.

Most importantly Tseshaht :TseshahtFN: leader Hugh Braker is calling it what it is. “Degrading to us, to be called Indians”.

As I feared, these ER closures are becoming the new normal. It used to be that closing an emergency department would have been unthinkable. Now it’s a just another routine occurrence.

Heads should be rolling over this.

  37. We have the technology to leave fossil fuels in the past. Less expensive & better in so many ways. Solar. Wind. Batteries. Electric buses. Electric trucks. Electric cars. Electric bikes and bike & roll lanes. Fast electric wheelchairs & mobility scooters too! #climateaction #bcpoli #urbantruth

  38. Response to new provincial approval & permitting processes for fossil fuel projects:

“Oil and gas on private property, we screwed that up bad. There's places we can't fix now."

"It's time to start considering where people live and what we do, and this doesn't give me a lot of of faith that's happening here."

  39. So what’s the solution?

The province and feds need to do their jobs and fund municipal infrastructure and services through the much more broad and fair taxation tools that are available to them so that it doesn’t hit low and middle income people as hard.

They need to spread that taxation onto industrial and corporate entities which used to provide a huge proportion of the tax revenue to small cities and towns through property tax but have now disappeared.

  40. RE: mastodon.social/@BCHeadlines/1

As a former city councillor, without even reading the editorial I can tell you the answer:

This is not about “runaway municipal spending”. This is deferred maintenance, aging infrastructure, and senior government financial downloading of all manner of services.

The logical endpoint of decades of this, across Canada, coupled with an antiquated and unfair property tax system, is stuff like Calgary’s massive emergency water main repairs causing huge disruption.
