Any observant, reasonably grounded person expects the Republicans to refuse to give up power and to attempt to seize permanent power after the election. Many (all?) have committed many crimes, some of them treason. They cannot afford to lose.
"House Republicans are now poised to claim that the midterm elections were stolen from them when they meet on January 3 to decide which members-elect will be seated in the 120th Congress."

"Environmental laws exist for a reason – to protect our health and safety, the clean air and water we rely on, and the nature that makes Canada unique. Dismantling decades worth of legal protections to speed up development and putting these important values at risk is not a path to true prosperity."

”To be soft on climate action is to be soft on inflation, and the cost of living, soft on sovereignty and security, and soft on economic growth and jobs. No dictator or wannabe can abide a democratic neighbour, especially one that seems happier, healthier, safer, and more prosperous. It puts the lie to their promises.
Most dictators are narcissists, so again, they can't afford comparison.

Why are criminal trials in Canada so slow? Guilty people are going free because of how our courts operate.

2/ The recently-released data centre framework does absolutely nothing to guarantee protection for Canadians. The principles are entirely voluntary and non-binding. We know how corporations treat self-regulation.
We need legally-binding protections, real public control, and an AI policy that puts people first - including a pause on new AI data centres until regulations are in place.
There’s too much on the line. Only the federal government can act comprehensively on AI.
We need our government to slow down and get real about the many risks: to jobs, to neighbourhoods, to air quality and electricity prices. And yes, to all human life.

1/ I wish I shared the minister’s confidence that Canadians (let alone all humans) are well protected from the many different dangers of AI.
When it comes to these warnings about AI self-improvement accelerating to the point where it could wipe out humanity in the next few years, it’s important to say that they could be a marketing stunt to fuel fear and pump even more money into the AI bubble.
Or, these tech companies are actively building a technology they know could kill us all.
Either way, we need to slow down the rush to embed AI in every part of our lives, to build data centres everywhere, and to embrace AI the way the Government of Canada has been doing.
The feds need to lead the effort to put hard, legal guardrails on AI and slow down the rush. Not cheerlead, lead.

Not so fast: airports may very well be on the auction block at the investment summit.
We've seen a copy of the pitch book for Carney's investor summit, and here's an interesting paragraph:
"The federal government is also exploring new models of infrastructure ownership and investment to unlock additional sources of capital, including the intention to maximize the full value and economic potential of Canada’s airports by modernizing governance and increasing capacity.
Together with the focus on export and trade diversification, the Canadian transportation sector is creating opportunities for long-term investment, modernization and asset growth."
That's a lot of words to say "airports could still be up for sale."
-
"Carney has once again taken a wrecking ball to Canada’s environmental safeguards and climate progress. Many of his moves since coming to power have been done quietly, to avoid the public backlash that these environmental rollbacks rightfully deserve. Such is the case with the amendments tabled this morning in stealth."
"There was no forewarning of this decision. No press release. No press conference."
-
Mark Carney's "latest attack on Canada’s hard-fought environmental rules came in the form of a quiet posting in the Canada Gazette which announced that some of the country’s most polluting projects will no longer be reviewed under the country’s Impact Assessment Act. This includes the country’s largest carbon bombs: oil and gas pipelines (including in national parks), in situ oil sands extraction and fossil gas plants."
"If the Prime Minister proceeds, nature will suffer, species could be driven to extinction and climate disasters will continue to become more severe, deadly and expensive — all while project decision-making becomes less transparent, less evidence-based and more politicized."

Don't be fooled by the claim that "legislation being prepared to preserve Species at Risk Act" SARA needs to be protected from the Gov't of Canada.
Industry has been lobbying for years to gut this law, e.g.; dx.doi.org/10.13140/RG.2.2.32633.68960/1

“In this conversation, Fawcett says Canadians should prepare for a longer conflict and stop assuming the old Canada-U.S. relationship can simply be restored after Trump. He argues the real choice is no longer between the pre-Trump status quo and diversification, but between deeper dependence on the United States and building new economic relationships in Europe, Asia, and elsewhere.”
