  5. In the middle of Danielle Smith's traitorous referendum, a by-election was just held in a "safe conservative seat" because one of Smith's MLAs resigned. (Bye-bye-election?)

Surprise unexpected upset, the NDP took the seat, to everyone's delight (except Smith).

"Alberta NDP flies the anti-separatist flag to snatch a UCP riding in Calgary"

    Good news for Canada.

  12. @NMBA
The #TrumpTariffs are obviously bad for Canada, but it's equally obvious that #MarkCarney's poll numbers rise when Canadians see him as standing up against the US.

As for the #NationalPost, I've been reading it since the 1990s. Their editorial line hasn't really changed, supporting normal #conservative policies like free trade, rule of law and NATO, unlike the Trump Administration. There are MAGA sympathisers in Canada, but not the *NP*.

  16. Let me add two points, not in the article:

    1. From a #conservative (rather than #CPC ) perspective, there are many ways #MarkCarney policies are improving Canada. Not as far or as fast as they should, but they are moves in the right direction. For instance, the recent announcement to accelerate deduction of capital investments is the sort of thing the #CPC would do in government.

    2. The PM will stumble and his fall will be like Icarus. He almost signed the deal...

  20. @mf_analysis

    "Furor" ??

a democratic body is approaching another democratic body about integration and cooperation over time.

It will continue to be a democratic body approaching another democratic body about cooperation and integration, over time, for all time.

    Have you met Canada?

Do you know how many nations Canada is?

Do any nations in Europe or Canada feel compelled to discuss the flucuating cooperation and integration on the regular?

  23. There are plenty of places to go to read smart independent pundits looking at #CanPol from the outside; but if you want to learn what MPs and other insiders of the Liberal party think, then go read the *Toronto Star*.

Similarly, this article in the #NationalPost tells you how the #CPC feels about their prospects at the moment. In a word: bleak. And with no real solutions.

  27. Sweden and Canada have universal health-care but access is better for Swedes
    nationalpost.com/news/canada/s

Policy discussions ought to include more consideration of what lessons we can draw from the successes and failings of systems in other jurisdictions.

(The privatised airport idea is a good example, where we should investigate how it works in Australia and elsewhere.)

  31. The Carney government seems to love to get applauded for standing up to Trump's authoritarianism while also passing legislation to take away Canadian freedoms and consolidate power in the hands of their cabinet ministers (and any future cabinet ministers). The surveillance state C-22, the identity verification online laws, the dismantling of environmental reviews and Indigenous consultations for major projects, losing an independent privacy commissioner, selling off airport operations to foreign investors instead of Canadian non-profits, now severely limiting labour rights.

  35. @The_Sun

    Too much solar....

Its like a gas station that follows you around town offering to fill you some more with free gas.

Its a solar panel, and its making so.much free power its just pouring out into the ground unused, making a nice day.

I guess Australia couldn't get new used EV batteries packed into a neighbourhood grid any sooner.

So much power its pouring onto the ground, like sunlight in a lazy country that hasn't built solar yet.
