  1. and while our PM Carney did get a short spurt of support, over 'Elbows Up' - I think that will crash soon with his short termism on the environment and caving to basicaly US O&G lobbyists

There is a roaring underground of political aggravation in Canada - leaders, watch out

  6. Can our politicians PLEASE stop being caricatures of evil?

Two sources within the government, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the last measure in the discussion paper is intended to create a carve-out for the southern resident killer whales [to allow activities likely to cause the extinction of the species].

Carney is LITERALLY TARGETTING ENDANGERED ORCAS FOR EXTINCTION. :mindblown:

“(The whales) are not functionally extinct yet, but we’re heading there if we can’t turn this around — and not only are we not turning it around, we are making the conditions in which they must recover worse,” said MacDuffee.

  11. these two major fires happened nine days apart. Either one could have come into town with the right conditions. We are having a community meeting on Wednesday to go over what happened last year. It's going to be interesting and probably pretty emotional. Rightly so.

I honestly think a big reason why most of the Liberal Party just doesn't get it is because they are centered in urban and sub urban Ontario and don't have to worry about their homes burning down every year.

And allow me to just stop you right there before you say this is normal for our neck of the woods.

Fires? sure. Fires that threaten towns on Vancouver Island. No. Never. Not in my lifetime. Nor anyone elses.

  16. One of the most effective, organic, long lasting boycotts in recent history

Not one group really organized this, no advertising (except stores doing buy Canadian, and they mostly flubbed that)

This is ongoing collective fury and disdain

  21. Question for Carney supporters.

When my house burns down in a climate change- accelerated fire, will I be allowed to vote for someone other than the Liberals without the "but you'll just elect a Conservative" or "but the economy" bullshit?

    I await your permission. 🙏

P.S. And this is not a rhetorical question, we have had 3 major fires within 20km of our home in the past 3 years. We have been protected by geography, BCWildfire, and luck.

  26. Two former Liberal environment ministers have harshly criticized Carney’s proposal to fast-track approval of projects like long-route pipelines:

    • Liberal MP Steven Guilbeault said Carney’s plan is “worse” than the changes under former Conservative PM Stephen Harper, which resulted in high-profile legal challenges

    • former Liberal MP Catherine McKenna, said Carney’s proposal will lead to a “lack of trust” and lawsuits, ultimately making the project approval process slower, not faster

  42. This was an entertaining read about the Alberta separatism referendum being quashed. By ignoring First Nations rights, separatists sowed their doom.
