Gas from the Beetaloo Basin will only pour fuel on the climate change fire
"The NT will become unliveable within decades..."

"In terms of gas reserves, the Beetaloo is bigger than Western Australia’s North West Shelf project, the nation’s largest fossil fuel development which accounts for more than 40% of Australia’s oil and gas production."

"The Beetaloo Basin is covered with pastoral leases and different forms of Aboriginal tenure. Some of this tenure is the NT’s Aboriginal Land Rights Act land, which provides fairly strong rights for Traditional Owners. But most of the Aboriginal title in the basin is federal native title tenure that does not allow Traditional Owners to veto resource extraction."

The idiocy of the Trump regime is endless. The only way to create any resiliency here in the face of upcoming global fossil fuel shortages would be to shore up a North American alliance, where the combined resources of the USA/Canada/Mexico's oil, natural gas and refinery productions, along with markedly reduction of diesel & lng exports, could keep us in relatively better (even if not good) economic outlook, versus the rest of the globe. But instead the MAGAts are doubling down on tariffs & refined fuels exports, alienating allies, & dooming the US public to massive inflation & job loss, all so a few fossil fuel corporations can reap record profits on lower volume.
