Not saying that it would be impossible to trigger such a disaster with weapons, but AFAIK this one was caused by melting ice. And the same happened before. And it was predicted that such a flood is going to happen in one place or another. Role of climate change here is that it makes disasters more likely to happen, it makes them stronger.

The amount of heat added to Earth due to greenhouse gases is immense and the most noticeable effects, such as what happened this time, are part of it.

The rate at which Greenhouse Gases accumulate in the atmosphere is extremely high, that is on top of the current GHG concentration which is already crazy. That all means the planet is warming very fast and it’ll keep warming a lot because Climate Change takes time. It’s not like if we stop emissions tomorrow, climate will go back to normal immediately.

Even if we beat the best predictions in the fight against climate change, it will take time for conditions to stop worsening. This is the situation we’re in unfortunately, and what I am talking about is extremely optimistic.

So we should educate ourselves and start actually fighting climate change instead of pretending to do so. And that would mean fighting capitalism, not surprisingly.

  6. Australia’s lizards and snakes - The threats are worse and converging

"Australia is home to about 10% of the world’s lizard and snake species, and roughly 98% of them occur nowhere else. If they disappear here, they disappear from the planet."

"Cats and foxes are estimated to kill 697 million Australian reptiles each year."

"Australia needs properly funded recovery programs for all threatened lizards and snakes, not only a handful of well-known species." >>

  15. Recent US and Israel attacks on #Iran have caused a global oil and gas price shock, which #energy analysts believe may accelerate the transition to #renewables.

By exposing the volatility and insecurity of #FossilFuels, the crisis has made solar, wind, and electric vehicles more attractive for national and economic stability. This shift was a central theme at a historic conference in Colombia, where a new coalition of governments and civil society began coordinating a phase-out of fossil fuels to move toward a more secure "electrostate" model.

  20. @lilithsaintcrow It's far more efficient to remove the #TechBros and #FossilFuels #Oligarchy from power, than to takeover every abuse of power they perpetrate.

Frankly, we don't have the time to do the latter, and the efficacy of the former is looking tragic.
