The inaugural Canada Investment Summit, scheduled for Sept. 14 and 15 in Toronto, will be a rare moment for Canada. Led by Prime Minister Mark Carney and two of the country’s largest pension funds, it is expected to draw the kind of crowd that normally only gathers en masse in Davos, Switzerland or Los Angeles.

Alternative Headline: More than half of Canadians have bought into the #Petrostate/ #FossilFools industry propaganda and should probably educate themselves by reading this article.

There is absolutely no reason public money should be funding the fossil fuel industry. Zero. Either on ethical or purely financial grounds. The fact that this happens at all is an absolute travesty.
Politicians/governements that support it should pay a heavy price.

[Cenovus] reported a second-quarter profit of $2.87 billion, up from $851 million a year ago.
Well I guess they can afford to pay for their own pipeline then?

That added energy increases the odds of extreme events: longer, more intense heat waves and droughts, interspersed with excessive precipitation. But these sorts of events have happened in the past—how can we tell if any given weather disaster has been made more likely by the climate?
"It’s a question with implications for everything from building codes to disaster preparedness. And there’s some good news: According to a report released by the US National Academies of Science on Thursday, the field of climate attribution is growing increasingly mature and can answer some questions for us with far greater confidence than it could just a decade ago. The report also notes that there are still important limits and suggests steps to address them.
"Overall, this makes it clear that climate attribution is normal, mainstream science. They'll spend a billion searching for reserves that are mostly not there, the few that are, are not viable; and we cannot afford to burn them anyway.
They might as well campaign to bring back whale oil lamps, that's how out of touch they are.
