  1. "carefully designed tariffs, used with sensible scheduling, could bring
some part of space-heating and hot water demand forward in the afternoon to take pressure off evening peaks. At a neighbourhood scale, borehole fields with water-to-water heat pumps as part of a district heating system can supply efficient, shared, low-carbon heat and act as
    thermal storage"

  9. Study Says UK Electric Cars and Heat Pumps Don't Save Carbon Yet

    newsletter.tf/uk-ev-heat-pump-

A new study claims electric cars and heat pumps in the UK don't save carbon because the electricity grid still uses fossil fuels. It suggests fixing the grid first.

  10. Study Says UK Electric Cars and Heat Pumps Don't Save Carbon Yet

A recent study from Queen Mary University of London suggests that electric cars and heat pumps in the UK may not be saving carbon emissions as much as people think. This is because the UK's electricity is still made partly from fossil fuels. The study says the country needs to improve its power grid and make more clean energy first.

  11. @bps_artish I have taken the liberty of copying your article as a repost. Here it is

Surprisingly thoughtful article about #HeatPumps in the UK.
The storyline has stopped being about "5x as efficient" (which most are not) and started to be about "3x as efficient" which most are. It's also pointing out that as gas is roughly 1/3rd of the cost of electicity, an electric heat pump will still cost a much to run as a gas boiler. so they won't reduce your fuel bills. And you may have to do significant work on an existing system to make it more efficient as heat pumps only produce low grade (low temperature) heat, such as INCREASING the size of your radiators, and improving your standard of insulation (both of which are beneficial to gas boilers or heat pumps).
So the key to widespread implemention is decoupling the cost of electricity from the cost of gas, which is wholly in the government remit, and is the reason energy companies are making HUGE amounts of profits while many struggle.
#TacticalVoting will pay off.

  12. So..with the wave of new #fedi people I realized I never did #introductions myself.

I'm Phoenix (ok not really) and I'm in the southeast US. I'm a
#buildingscientist, #RESNET trainer and also do #qualityassurance and #energyefficiency consulting in new residential #construction. I like talking about #EnergyCode, #heatpumps and why houses need to breath is a MYTH. In my spare time I love to go to the #beach, watch #collegefootball and enjoy a nice #bourbon and/or #whisky.
