Four Canadian Tire stores in BC were found to have broken privacy laws from 2018 to 2021 for using facial recognition technology (#FRT) to compare customer’s faces to a database of “persons of interest”
They did not obtain customer’s consent, adequately notify customers, or demonstrate a reasonable purpose for using this tech
