"We’ll fund the infrastructure needed for tourism - without whacking a bed tax on Kiwis." - Nicola Willis and Lupston.
Odd to see colleagues of bully-boy Sam use "bed" and "whack" in the same "post".

New Zealand is "being sleepwalked into catastrophe" on so many fronts, not just feral deer. Feral businessman-politicians are doing even more damage.

CW: NZ Pol
Can anyone explain why this years Labour party billboards have magenta highlights through the traditional red - the same basic shade that the ACT party use in their branding?
Do Labour really want to remind us that it was them 80s that sold out into the neoliberal disaster that ACT so desperately want to continue destroying the country with?
Odd choice

HOW the flaming F**K is 74.4% of EMERGENCY PATIENTS "seen within six hours" (note not treated just seen) at ALL acceptable?
-
Gee it seems even cruel denying people benefits isn't enough to stop the numbers climbing.
They're trying to rig the figures by denying under 20s benefits and it still increases by 80,000
*Wonder how many parents on minimum wage decided it made more sense to quit so their children could get a benefit?

How to spot bias in our MSM
You look at MSM
NOTE: The story is LUXON'S views about Hipkins' comment NOT Hipkins comment with Luxon's response buried 3/4 of the way into the story like they do when Luxon says something

Joel Maxwell with a cynical look at NZ's political parties. There are some good lines and he's right about Labour using invisibility as a campaign technique.
"Labour’s ghost campaign risks driving voter turnout into the ground"

While I love that #National's ideological bias has crashed headfirst into reality, let's not forget that even the targets they've hit are bullshit:
Less people in emergency housing ≠ people housed, meeting climate targets ≠ doing enough about '#ClimateChange', less people taking up elective surgery ≠ a well run #HealthSystemJobseeker #s climbing, almost 80,000 over target | #RNZ

Presumably the guy who died on Paul Goldsmith's doorstep was in the middle of writing a thankyou letter on his achievement of fewer than 800 households in emergency housing at the time. #nzpol

God, the level of spin is reaching proportions.
"In the year ended December 2025, official figures from Statistics New Zealand show 19,000 Kiwis made the return home from Australia while 47,500 departed."
Luxon: "I'm happy to send you the numbers. As I said to you, 14 percent growth in Kiwis coming back in the last year."

Judging by the election billboards around Central Otago, it is clearly National v ACT. The left is virtually invisible..

One thing I detest about Winston Peters and NZ First is their constant immigrant bashing. My partner has worked as a health professional for many years in NZ and paid taxes and contributed to the country in many ways. She has an EU passport but has had permanent residency in NZfor over 30 years. She chose to keep her EU passport because that is where she came from. It is not possible to have both a German EU passport and a NZ one. Peters and his NZF mates are trying to do a Trump and score a few redneck votes by pursuing such negative and destructive anti-immigrant policies. Like the AFD in Germany, NZF is acting like a Nazi party. They don't deserve anyone's support. #NZPol https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/politics_election-2026/1273306/new-zealand-first-pledges-to-restrict-superannuation-to-citizens-from-2029

BOTH
Show support for Nat Lite collapsing
It's like voters want REAL CHANGE not a watered down version of what we've got.

The attention #NZMedia give to Act which is currently only ranked as the fifth sometimes sixth most popular political #NZPol party is unbelievable despite the Act Party being ranked so low in public polls.
I can only put it down to the fact Act are the highest ranked party in terms of dark money backing.

@zl2tod @rnzbot_nz Yes, ACT is pretty clear about their motivations. Lax campaign finance laws aside, I'm OK with them expressing their views. That's politics.
It's the media coverage, even by RNZ, that's surprising me. In this case, it's like if ACT announced a policy to abolish all public health funding and the media just reported it without any mention of what impact that would have on the country.

@rnzbot_nz I don't understand how it is that this RNZ news article just presents ACT's new business unicorn fairyland climate "policy" as is, without strongly emphasising how bat-shit crazily irresponsible and dangerous it is.
Have they heard of a thing called science?
