  2. CW: NZPol - Nats u-turns / more Labour centrism

National has done a u-turn on the taxes they announced only last month. Today they will NOT be introducing either an accommodation levy or a bank tax. Those poor suffering Aussie bankers will be breathing a sign of relief.

But the alternative lacks inspiration. Three months out from an election and Hipkins has already ruled out taxing either multinationals or the obscenely wealthy. I guess that just leaves the poor to pick up the slack, again.

"Hipkins has repeatedly insisted a coalition led by Labour would not feature taxes proposed by future partners, such as the Green Party, Te Pāti Māori or the Opportunity Party. He said only Labour’s capital gains tax, used to fund three free GP visits, would be introduced."

The man is a waste of space. So no inspirational or equitable policies from Labour. Just more of the same old, same old.

  6. ACT's Paul Henry is celebrating getting a throwaway line made into a real party policy. "Bugger me," he told WWNews. "If it's as easy as that, we'll soon be legislating to allow mockery of foreigners with silly names and ladies with facial hair. And would that be such a bad thing?"

Listen to how he knows what he's talking about

Listen to how he actually answers the question asked, as opposed to one he will say to you

Wouldn't that be nice to have here?

  9. I was talking to my son about this. Conservative political tendency at heart is based on the idea that:

"Some people are superior to others, and the inequality that exists in the world around us reflects those innate differences, and inequality is a good thing, and a necessary thing...."

Even poor conservative people "can partake in this worldview and get some kind of psychic satisfaction out of it."

I prefer: "a just society is one … in which people’s equal potential for flourishing and happiness is able to find expression. It really is not a question of sameness. It is a recognition of difference" , [and] "the inherent worth of other people."

Every euro invested yields a return of five euros, partly through lower healthcare costs, reduced youth care expenditure and improved academic performance."

  16. CW: NZPol - Seymour deregulates flying machines

David Seymour's mini-DOGE vanity project, the Ministry of Regulation, is rarely credited with any actual savings, so here's a seriously dumb one.

Farmers using drones will no longer need any training in either flying or agricultural spraying. From mid-2027, just an advance notification to the CAA will suffice.

While a few farmers' sons may be updating their Christmas wish lists, the Aviation Industry Association is not happy.

"Agricultural spray drones are the size of a dining room table, can travel at more than 70kmh and will almost certainly weigh more than 100 kilograms when operating. What happens if a farmer operating one of these has a flyaway or system failure?"

What about keen farm boys over-spraying neighbouring properties? This deregulated attitude is on point for Seymour and the Atlas Network in general.

'Let's increase the risk of death or serious injury on farms. What could possibly go wrong?'

  18. Why did Luxon, NZ's PM, turn himself into the world's weakest 'why did the chicken have cognitive problems crossing the road' joke ever?

To keep world-choking fossil fuels happy, I'm guessing. Maybe he got too close and their emissions clouded his vision?
