  1. @ClareBear @v_for_verbosity

    Yes, I had never even heard of Marama Davidson appearing at the Oxford Union debate despite having David Seymour’s appearance at the debate being headline news for days last year in #NZMedia.

    The video was only posted by #NZGreens on YT the other day. It popped up on my timeline and I think I was the first to view it.

    We really need to pressure our media into being a little less partisan in their #NZPol reporting.

  2. I recommend watching this full speech from #NZGreens co-leader Marama Davidson speaking at the Oxford Union Debate opposing the notion that the sun should have never set on the British Empire.

    It’s particularly relevant to the current #NZPol coalition government’s attempts to disenfranchise the #indigenous #Māori and founding document of #Aotearoa #NewZealand te tiriti o Waitangi.

  5. Good to see Chippy joining #NZGreens in offering hope with a plan instead of the constant austerity and messages of misery that come from the coalition of incompetents.

    It seems somewhat ironic that messages of investing in renewable energy independence and control of local food production is coming from the #NZLabour Party and not the antithetically named #NZ First Party. #NZPol

  7. Just think about what a different place we'd be in today if #NZGreens and Labour hadn't needed Winston in 2017.

    We wouldn't need fossil fuel imports to the extent we do today, that's for certain. And we probably wouldn't have seen electricity prices nearly double.

    The upcoming election needs to be about energy and its costs. Get Greens in policy roles so we can break the addiction cycle.

  8. 2 campaign events coming up this week.

    Wednesday evening from 7pm we’ll be at Fantail and Turtle in Smales Farm for a volunteers hui. It’s a chance to meet up with other volunteers and hear more about the campaign. We’ll have all the Shore candidates there, as well as 3 of our Green MPs.

    Then this Sunday (the 10th) we’ll have a stall at the Smales Farm markets.

    Sign up for the volunteers hui at greens.org.nz/nsh_se_20260506 and for the market stall at greens.org.nz/nsh_ms_260412

  9. Hey NZ Greens, when I visit www.greens.org.nz, it tries to run JavaScript in my browser from a wide range of third-party domains. These break down into 3 categories;

    1) Utilities:

    * use.typekit.net
    * pub.searchiq.co

    If these scripts are Free Code, you can serve copies from your own domain. Otherwise, why are you pushing them into our browsers without our knowledge or consent?

    2) Unknown:

    What even is this? What scripts is it serving up?

  14. Proud and honoured to be standing as the Green Party candidate for the North Shore in the election this year.

    The Green Party is the voice in Parliament advocating for people and planet. We are so lucky to live in this amazing country that has enough for us all. Unfortunately, successive governments have prioritised corporate profits over what’s good for people and the environment, leaving us with crumbling infrastructure, worsening inequality, and an increasingly degraded environment.

    Coming from a military background, having the Green Party as my political home might not seem intuitive (we’re not known for voting Green a lot of the time). But it is the values instilled in me during my time in the Navy and the Army that brought me to the Greens; serving our country, looking after each other, and leaving the place better than we found it.

    Over the next few months I'll be sharing more about the sort of country that we in the Green Party want to build, and how you can help us create it. Let’s get stuck in, New Zealand.

  19. Great catchup today with the Shore Branch #nzgreens crew as we head into candidate selection meetings next week.

    If you’re a Green Party member and live in the Northcote, North Shore, East Coast Bays, Upper Harbour, or Whangaparāoa electorates, head to the Members site and register for the meeting next Sunday the 22nd of March.

    Kia ora! I'm an #NZGreens member, and one of the co-convenors of the Green Geeks network for techie people.

    As far as I know there are no Green MPs currently using Mastodon, but there are plenty of members. I’m currently working on a position paper on social media which will advocate for a presence here. It's a classic challenge for any progressive organisation though: do you spend your time on building the world you want to see or on engaging with people in the world as it is? The answer always needs to be a balance of both, but at the moment we need to reckon with the fact that the raw numbers of users are stacked against spending time on Mastodon. Especially during an election year, it's a hard case to make for a very busy media team.

    I’ll be emphasising that Mastodon users are disproportionately going to be people who’d consider voting Green, and look for ways to get started. In the meantime, we can make sure members have a visible presence.

  22. This is what independent foreign policy looks like. If only more parliamentarians in NZ had the conviction of the Green Party

  23. Yes, when Gareth Morgan, a dedicated conservationist and formerly left leaning economist, set up TOP now Opportunities Party he did so because he disagreed with the Green's social and economic ideology.

    The party's creation essentially cost NZ Greens (and Labour) ultimately benefiting the right and increasing poverty, privitisation and corporate control, carbon emissions, ecological and environmental collapse etc.

    The way I see it, if you're committed to a livable economic and environmental future for your and everyone else's children then there's only one (2 incl TPM) political party with the policy and commitment to grabbing hold of that "opportunity" while we still can.

  24. Quoting from the latest "Te Awa" (#NZGreens quarterly publication - see te-awa.greens.org.nz/landing -
    "We should be celebrating our many local
    #government election successes. Our 49 campaigns
    across the motu saw the election of 28 #Green
    candidates, including another Green #Mayor (well done
    Nándor!). While it is a pity many great candidates
    missed out, this result compares favourably with ACT
    Party efforts that saw only nine candidates successful
    from 46 campaigns.

    "While #ACT was celebrating the number of Māori
    wards that were disestablished, the actual voting tells
    a different story. Over 50 per cent of #voters supported
    #Māori #wards."

  25. Lovely to catch up with Green Party whanau tonight at the Shore Branch meeting.

    Bit of time to socialise before the end of the year.

    Bring on election 2026.

    What we actually have to do is not wring our hands about the 'missing million' voters. We need to go out and we need to find them, and we need to build trust with them. Not just when it's easy and convenient in election years, but outside of that."

  28. Latest Polling.

    So the flagging National Party would be kept in power by virtue of NZF (and ACT).

    The Greens vote is currently too low to propel a Labour-led coalition. Labour & the Greens leadership need to work together to build their combined strength in the electorate over the next 12 months.

    I've seen people pushing for Chloe Swarbrick to be Minister of Finance in a left coalition. No and No. It's time this vital portfolio is held by someone with actual finance-economic experience. The best role IMO for someone like Swarbrick is a broad, generalist multi-portfolio position like Deputy PM. And give one of the big social portfolios (health, social development etc) to Marama Davidson. #nzpol #nzgreens #nzlabour

  29. Just watched this Dave Latele pod cast with #NZGreens Party co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick.

    Dave Latele's not the first person to say #ChlöeSwarbrick will be NZ PM one day.

    Although unlikely in the next #NZPol election under MMP, with enough party votes, it's not impossible for the Greens to have a majority of seats in a coalition govt, after all they're currently the third largest party in parliament.

    Wonderfully honest and intelligent korero between Dave and Chlöe, I highly recommend watching.

  30. Great to hear a #NZPol politician, Chlöe Swarbrick, share their vision and logical approach to improving the lives, economy, health and environment of #NewZealand getting some airtime to challenge the failing status quo with a rare clarity.

  31. Just to show that Jake Tame asks the hard questions of all politicians, regardless of their political alignment, here's the recent Q+A interview with Chlöe Swarbrick about the Greens' alternative budget;

    youtube.com/watch?v=Sl1slr5sXv

    I was surprised by how many of these questions she couldn't really answer. Although to her credit, she didn't pretend she was, while answering their own patsy question, as Luxon and Willis do, *constantly*.

  32. IMHO Seymour is a poor Kiwi's equally shoddy version of Musk - just as divisively truth warping.

    The further to extreme right a party goes, the more it squeals about less destructive balance being a danger.

    The predictable pattern is a confusion tactic rooted in how narcissism, sociopathy and psychopathy scapegoat and slander others to give their sly machiavellianism a backdoor

    #NZLabour were not perfect but their ethics with those of #NZGreens easily put the #NZCoalition to shame.

  33. Waitangi Day in Ōtautahi this year means it's time to hīkoi against this racist government. We'll be meeting in Victoria Square at 11am, and walking 9km to New Brighton.

    #NZGreens will be there, although probably not wearing party branding during the walk. We’ll have a refreshment stop for participants at Bexley Reserve before the final stage, which I understand will be silent.

  35. Official and final results are out for the New Zealand election #NZVotes23 electionresults.govt.nz/electi As expected the right wing parties National and ACT lose their election night majority and the increasingly eccentric nationalist party New Zealand First will be brought into a 3-way government. #NZGreens get their best ever result but will not wield power after a weak performance by their preferred partner, the Labour party. #NZPol

  37. Always thought #Luxon wouldn’t gel with the wider NZ community beyond National partisans. And the polls reflecting that. #Kantar

    Plus the “tax cuts for the rich” policy rankles big time with ordinary folks.

    Final thought - about time #NZGreens got their numbers above 10%; to be a major influence within any future coalition centre-left gvt…they need to contribute bigger electoral clout.
