My local Waitrose supermarket allows me to collect tokens every time I shop, to allocate to one of three local good causes. The charities change every quarter, at which point a first, second and third prize monetary amount is donated by Waitrose to the charities. This quarter, the charities include the local food bank and a dog rescue organisation.
Unbelievably and very sadly in my mind, the dog rescue charity is winning and the food bank is coming last. This seems wrong to me on at least two levels. Surely poor people who are struggling to feed themselves are a more worthy cause than homeless dogs, and what kind of country are we that needs food banks in the first place?

Honestly feels weird that I’ve spent all day having dozens of doorstep conversations with residents about what we as #GreenParty councillors can do to improve things like community spirit, local bus services & waste collection, and then I go online & the dominant discourse is antisemitism. Bit of a disconnect.

Good to get onto The Hard Shoulder to combat misinformation on the oil off the coast of Ireland. As it stands, we do not know how much oil there is, there are only decades old guesses, it would take time and be costly to explore it and just be another step in the wrong direction. It isn’t the short term fix it is being advertised as.

It was so great to meet Hannah Spencer today in Denton and talk about both of our Bye-Election campaigns. Hannah has proved that a message of hope in the face of hate, and positivity can really resonate with people. That doesn’t mean ignoring serious issues or abandoning your values, but bringing solutions instead of just negativity.
