The money raised by taxing billionaires out of existence will do more than help with the budget. Taking their money would make it impossible for billionaires to buy governments and write budgets to benefit themselves.

Oh good. Even more centralisation. Just what the most overcentralised wee country (that's actually a medium sized country but thinks it looks cuter if it pretends to be small) urgently needs.
Not #ClimateAction; not #ScottishIndependence; not #LandReform; not #WealthTax; not #LocalDemocracy. Nope, none of that. Just mash all the health boards into just two, and everything will be sorted.
Remind me, why did we vote for these clowns?

Espriella favors “flexible” labor (subordinate to capital) and “productive” environmental regulation (pro-growth), repealled the #wealthtax & plans a budget cut of at least 20 trillion Colombian pesos/six billion U.S. dollars, a halt to almost all government spending to implement. In short, the #DOGE plan.
What could go wrong?

A Plan for Equality & Prosperity Within Planetary Boundaries
A habitable world is possible"The Global Justice Report is part of a broader international agenda for planetary habitability, social justice, and reform of the global financial architecture."
"The Global Justice Project attempts to set out a new vision for global progress in the 21st century: grounding human development and equality in planetary habitability. It explores the conditions under which the world could move toward this horizon and traces an economically and ecologically consistent transition path from 2026 to 2100." >>
https://globaljusticeproject.wid.world/Summary: The Global Justice Report
A Plan for Equality & Prosperity Within Planetary Boundaries
"It is possible to reconcile planetary habitability and high well-being for all, but only if the transformation rests on three pillars simultaneously. Fast decarbonization of energy systems is necessary. But we also need a major shift toward sufficiency – understood as a sharp reduction in labour hours and material footprint and large changes in consumption patterns, food habits, land use, and forest cover. In addition, neither decarbonization nor sufficiency can be financed and politically sustained without a drastic reduction in inequality of income, wealth and power, both between countries and within them. The compression of global inequality is not only compatible with deep decarbonization; it is a necessary condition for shared prosperity on a finite planet." >>

The so called backlash to "tax wealth, not work" is either disingenuous or confused. They claim it won't work because it won't raise enough revenue but that's not the point of a wealth tax. The point is to reduce inequality. A wealth tax is a way forward in that direction.

#DemocraticSocialism Is the Compromise Position
Given our scale of #inequality, the #egalitarian reforms of democratic socialism are only the start of what we should strive for.
Kyle Schmidlin, Jul 31, 2026
Excerpt: "Reforming the #SecondGildedAge
"Whether or not one agrees with such ideas, it’s a discussion that free people are within their rights to have. Though we often treat #capitalism as a national religion, there’s nothing sacred about it. Even the US Constitution is surprisingly agnostic on questions of economic organization. It’s not encoded in our DNA—in fact, we are much more naturally inclined toward cooperation than competition. Humans have a virtually infinite number of ways we can arrange society, and we are in desperate need of rethinking ours.
"Because for the last few decades, the American economy has grown ever more off-balance, to the point where many analysts now say we’re in a second #GildedAge. We recently minted the world’s first trillionaire, while about half of us would be wiped out by any major illness, accident, or job loss. Workers have lost power, essentials like housing and healthcare are increasingly out of reach, and practically all the gains of our productivity have been accumulated at the very top, with #corporations posting record profits. #Billionaires are multiplying their wealth faster than ever, building anti-revolution doomsday bunkers, and plotting to rule their own fiefdoms as #CEOKings.
"We live in a society that’s obsessed with law and order for things like #shoplifting or overstaying a visa, but largely looks the other way on #CorporateCrimes like #pollution, #WageTheft, and #fraud—not to mention #WarCrimes and #genocide. The president is a convicted felon who wants you to ignore his decades-long friendship with a child sex trafficker and instead fear and hate the immigrant next door.
"In such a system, elites should feel relieved that people are only demanding, say, a few public options for groceries, rather than revolting. The wealthy surely all took note of the public reaction to #LuigiMangione, who is accused of murdering United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson on the streets of New York City. Mangione became a cultural icon who was openly celebrated in many circles, making clear the rage simmering within America’s dispossessed.
"There’s a reason the progressive California Rep. #RoKhanna refers to a tax on wealth as an #AntiRevolution tax, or an attempt to save capitalism from itself. Progressive Democrats like Khanna often mediate between capitalist centers of power and the party’s left-wing base, who largely feel fed up with the party’s incremental approach of making small tweaks here and there. Democratic socialism, as practiced in today’s America, is still essentially incrementalism, but they’re much bigger increments.
"Such a model works well in places like #Finland, #Iceland, and #Denmark. These countries have high taxes, but they get far more out of them than we do. As a result they are consistently ranked as the happiest countries on Earth, with excellent numbers for education, homelessness, poverty, healthcare, life expectancy, and infant mortality—all areas in which the US, with its profit-first approach to every problem, is lagging behind.
"#HighTaxes and a mixed economy also once worked well in the #UnitedStates. We dug ourselves out of the #GreatDepression with the #NewDeal. Government programs brought electricity to rural areas and established safety nets and Social Security. Our middle class boomed after World War II, when taxes were the highest they’ve ever been.
"#Republicans and #BigBusiness called that #socialism, too. They even conspired to overthrow President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Now, faced with another socialist menace, they’re playing just as dirty."

Gary with a really concise segment on wealth tax:
https://youtube.com/shorts/V2M0_T-l2LE?si=H-mWbRbu1YDTFUXR
It really does seem like one fundamental choice: As per Gary, either people with wealth and power taking all the rest from the less powerful, or (if these are the words) democratizing power/wealth via the right taxes.
(And will Labour finally listen and save the UK... I feel like Starmer maybe has a moment of opportunity here.)

I wonder if we’ll look at this year’s #MetGala as some kind of tipping point?
The gushing #billionaire owned press foist fawning imagery on us normies. It all smacks of the self absorbed Capitol Elite at the center of the #HungerGames.
Is this the year when backlash coalesces? Where the 99% say enough and demand a #WealthTax?

#BernieSanders to Rally for #BillionaireTax in #California as #Crypto Industry Joins Newsom in Opposition
“While US billionaires became $1.5 trillion richer last year, the average worker in America has just $955 in retirement savings,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders. “That’s why I’ll be in LA this week fighting for a #WealthTax on #billionaires.”
Jake Johnson
Feb 18, 2026Excerpt: "The proposal has also drawn opposition from Democratic California Gov. #GavinNewsom, who has close ties to #SiliconValley elites—some of the most vocal opponents of the state wealth tax plan. (Notably, the billionaire CEO of the most valuable company in the world, #Nvidia, said earlier this year that he is 'perfectly fine' with the proposal as others in his class pumped millions into the effort to defeat it.)"
