  1. Hooten repeats his talking point that a) public subsidies to support workers' incomes during COVID lockdowns were free money for businesses, and b) inflationary. I call bullshit on both. The first bit is obvious.

    On b), increasing the money supply is only inflationary if all available goods and services can already be bought (eg housing). Those wage subsidies were targeted at people who spent it on products and services that would otherwise have gone unbought.

  2. NZ Labour finance spokesperson Barbara Edmonds asks what can be done from Opposition other than tap the sign with the election date. This is emblematic of everything that's wrong with Labour under Hipkins.

  3. Having a go at listening live to The Bradbury Group;

    Firstly, there's no way to tune in to this online talk show without using one of a grab bag of corporate platforms. The embed on their own website is the FarceBook version 🤦‍♂️

    Must contact them about offering an OwnCast option.

  4. Bomber's digital rag has become so enshittified, I can't even link to episodes of the Bradbury Group podcast directly. The best I can give you now is a direct link to an edition on the MediaWorks account on MegaPhone (owned by Spitify), like the latest edition here;

  5. #KieranMcAnulty loyally towing the Starmerist party line for Hipkins' ;

    "If you're talking about the top end of town, then choose the other lot. If you're talking about everyday working NZers, then don't look at them, look at us. And if you give Labour the most votes then we'll have the most sway in govt, and we won't make the same mistakes that Luxon made and just give the small parties everything they ask for."

  6. "I think there's too much social journalism today and there's not enough business journalism."

    #CameronBagrie, "boutique" economics consultant, Bagrie Economics, 2025

    Ok, Boomer.

    Bagrie goes on to list a bunch of purely theoretical measures, none of which have anything to do with the purpose of an economy; getting shit people need produced, and distributed.

  7. "...it's certainly true that as a result of their tax cut package, and their failure to substantially cut spending, despite their rhetoric, they have widened the operating deficit, to more than it may have even been under Labour.

    So if you want to call that borrowing for tax cuts, they have done that. Its certainly true that the amount of borrowing by the government is as bad as it was under Labour..."

  8. Bomber is running the 4-year Parliamentary term up the flagpole;

    rova.nz/podcasts/the-bradbury-

    I hope this was a provocation. As @norightturnnz pointed out a few months back, NZ governments already have a default 6 year term. No MMP govt has ever been turfed out after one term, so the first election they face after getting Executive power is really just a sanity check. Any govt chucked out at this point would clearly deserve it (like the current one).

  9. "...the Charter School model is just totally, fundamentally flawed. Labour will repeal the Charter School model, we'll deal with any schools that have been established in the meantime on a case-by-case basis ..."

    #ChrisHipkins, NZ Labour leader, 2025

    thedailyblog.co.nz/2025/11/05/

    This is the kind of bottom line we need to hear more of from Labour. "Charter Schools" can be converted to Special Character schools, just like the last lot.

  10. "It's worth following ... the brave voices of people like Breaking the Silence, who speak for former [IDF] reservists who speak out and give testimony to what they saw and what they were required to do. Whether in the detention centres or on the field ... in the war zones."

  11. "I just don't think there's a quick, easy solution without raising taxes, bringing more revenue into the economy, and again, people will also push back at that. When Barbara tries to introduce [taxes on] the Capital Gain or wealth or whatever ... there'll be a bit of squealing about that too. But ..."

    O’Sullivan is a Rogernome from way back, but even she seems to accept that we need a change in our political paradigm.

  12. Hipkins is still humming the same tune he was singing a year ago, the 'no new ideas about tax policy' march;

    omny.fm/shows/the-bradbury-gro

    Why the f%$k not Chippy? Both TPM and the Greens had wealth tax cards on the table in the last election, and *grew* their vote from 2020. Labour didn't, and haemorrhaged support.

    Taxing wealth accumulation is financially sensible, ethically justified, and popular. Find a f%&king spine Labour, commit to a policy!
