  1. "There are two things NZ needs to change the government. First is, they need Labour to be the largest single party. Second, they need Opportunity to get over 5%, so that we are not reliant on Santa Claus Winston, selling snake oil."

  5. "I think we would be better served if there were more 10/20/30 minute long form interviews (but fewer of them) that did go into depth. Our politicians 'front up' all the time, but have developed skills in not saying anything."

    #MatthewHooten, 2026

    Hmm. I'm finding myself agreeing with with Hooten again. Do I need a slap to snap me out of it?

  9. Having a go at listening live to The Bradbury Group;

    thedailyblog.co.nz/8pm-live-to

    Firstly, there's no way to tune in to this online talk show without using one of a grab bag of corporate platforms. The embed on their own website is the FarceBook version 🤦‍♂️

    Must contact them about offering an OwnCast option.

  13. "I think there's too much social journalism today and there's not enough business journalism."

    #CameronBagrie, "boutique" economics consultant, Bagrie Economics, 2025

    rova.nz/podcasts/the-bradbury-

    Ok, Boomer.

    Bagrie goes on to list a bunch of purely theoretical measures, none of which have anything to do with the purpose of an economy; getting shit people need produced, and distributed.

  17. Finally caught up with this week's edition of The Bradbury Group and it's a really good one, with NZ Herald columnist Simon Wilson, former Winston First and Nat MP Tau Henare, and Green MP Steve Abel;

    thedailyblog.co.nz/2025/12/02/

    They talk about the challenge of funding local government, and public perception differences between tax and rates. Again, I think both need to be collected by IRD and split between central and local;

  21. "...it's certainly true that as a result of their tax cut package, and their failure to substantially cut spending, despite their rhetoric, they have widened the operating deficit, to more than it may have even been under Labour.

    So if you want to call that borrowing for tax cuts, they have done that. Its certainly true that the amount of borrowing by the government is as bad as it was under Labour..."

  25. Bomber is running the 4-year Parliamentary term up the flagpole;

    rova.nz/podcasts/the-bradbury-

    I hope this was a provocation. As @norightturnnz pointed out a few months back, NZ governments already have a default 6 year term. No MMP govt has ever been turfed out after one term, so the first election they face after getting Executive power is really just a sanity check. Any govt chucked out at this point would clearly deserve it (like the current one).

  29. So far, I’m enjoying #DuncanGarner: #EditorInChief on #Rova, but the podcast isn’t showing up in #Castro. Is it on other platforms such as #OverCast? Today they have launched their brand-new segment, #Yourdio, which I am going to use extensively. He quit social media seven years ago, however #MediaWorks didn’t set up the show on #Mastodon. Search for Duncan Garner: Editor In Chief.

  30. #TodayFM isn’t giving equal coverage to the #WhiteFerns as they do the #BlackCaps, with #commentary on the #Rova #app only, asking #Alexa says she can’t find it!
