@avilewis For all our sake in #Canada, I hope you (and maybe your counterparts in the Cat-herding Party) are learning from the successes and failures of the leftists and progressives to our south how to effectively organize.
A third party can't run an effective campaign in an FPTP system using the same slick and slimy antics of the top two parties. It’s all about in-person relational organizing, a whole lot of active and empathetic listening, deep canvassing, and speaking with voters in their terms, not your own, about their priority topics, not yours.
As you rightly point out, reversing the financial sabotage of our healthcare system is necessary and insufficient, and expanding public healthcare to include the whole body, eyes and teeth included, is imperative. So is including the brain, even when the issue doesn't show on scans and so gets called “mental health” rather than “neurological health.”
However, as with #Canadian Texan climate scientist Dr. @[email protected] adapting climatology and renewable energy discourse to different (often rightist) audiences, this will need to be communicated to the polity in locally adapted rhetoric and reasons. The best way to determine said language is through actively listening, in person, to constituents. That’s also the only way to effectively bypass the mainstream oligarch-owned conventional and social media.
The conservative “Liberal” party and fascist “Conservative” party, being aligned with ruling-class capital, will always have leftists and progressives beat on oligarch-owned media. As we are seeing in the US, our winning recourse is through in-person relationships, at union halls, Legion halls, libraries, religious centres, music and arts events, vigils, marches, potlucks in parks, and every other third place where #Canadians gather for any purpose but a Nazi rally or the like, and most importantly, at the homes of whomever has time and willingness to talk with us. At every such place, we must listen first and most, and adapt all that we say to those with whom we’re speaking: the same truths, said differently, selecting how and when to speak of which topic not through a menu of work-shopped talking points from a PR firm like the establishment parties, but through reflection of what we’re hearing from whomever is in front of us at that moment.
And when we must explain to an unknown or general audience, we must do so while neither condescending to those who know nor relying on background knowledge missing to those who don't. As a means to that end: use graphics and humour, so the former will laugh and share rather than feeling as though their intelligence is being insulted, while the latter will learn before their defences or app-shortened attention span shuts the mental door to new information. Speaking with reporters Saturday morning on Parliament Hill, Mr. Carney offered several examples of U.S. demands that Canada could not accept, including the fine print related to potential agreements on steel, aluminum and autos, and language that he said would have restricted Canada’s trade negotiations with other countries.
