@fdroidorg Release Candidate 0 is here! #FDroid is a repository for #FOSS / #FLOSS #Android apps. I use it for a few years now, but [google wants to break it], and I hope that my new phone (which I plan to buy this August) will not be affected (I doubt...) Back to the topic of the new update, now the app looks really nice, except that the button label «Discover for yourself» is too close to the border of the screen, but that's more of a l10n issue. Here's another bug I encountered: the search doesn't work properly! I should report this to them, maybe I should also contribute to l10n of the app as well while I still have enough free time.

I've just stumbled across something whimsical, and I love it.
It is a package called xcowsay. Its sole purpose is to display some text in the form of a speech bubble, coming from a graphical cow. For example:
~$ echo this is awesome | xcowsay -t 50
produces the output shown in the screenshot. A typical usage would be displaying text from the fortune package.
If you prefer, there is a terminal version called cowsay, that draws an ascii-art cow.

This is my biggest concern. If the regulations go from saying "You must identify AI generation" to "Software that does AI generation but does not embed watermarks is illegal", there's a mechanism of taking away control from individuals and placing it in the hands of only the largest companies who are able/willing to comply with the law.
This is extremely dangerous.
This is why labeling, which seems innocuous, is a concern. I personally believe some labeling is warranted, but it's how it's applied that makes this a serious issue.

I share more positions with Richard Stallman and his (in my opinion) anarchistic interpretation of Free Software over Linus Torvalds ideals and his (in my opinion) neo-liberal coorporate interpretation of Open Source. I believe that software must be free and open source and that nothing of it - not even binary blobs - should be not even partially closed source.
Making money with tagging software as intellectual property will lead to monopolization of the software AND hardware market. Computers can do create art, scientistic progress and should therefore be entirely free.
That inspired me to learn C89 after Daniel Stenberg's coding standards strictly, but it's a very long and hard way to be an exellent low level programming person and i am still at the very beginning of it. I would love to write my own FOSS C89 drivers for devices and may contribute to RISC-V as entirely free processor architecture, but yeah... My entire life was full of high level coding with Java and Python in education and even university, so it's hard to change the perspective in core understandings from that.
Anyway, somehow principles like KISS, self-documenting code and security+stability over fancy new features feels so safe and comfortable for me which empowers me for stuff like reading the dry GNU C manual.
In lack of skill, money and trust in companies like Purism, i'm driving everything i own based on Debian (except playground systems). Therefore i use non-free software right now, sadly. GNU Guix seems interesting tho, will read into it when i've got more spare time.
And yeah, i maybe develop towards tech conservancy. Sorry not sorry. I got strong opinions.

Oi Isa. Eu usava sempre o XMPP. Adorava. Aí veio o GTalk e começou a afastar as pessoas do protocolo. Eu vi servidor por servidor fechar e eu cada vez mais isolado. Não concordar com os termos de serviço de algumas empresas também nunca me ajudou na vida. Mas sempre tive a percepção de que algum dia as pessoas recobrariam os sentidos e reinvidicariam sua liberdade. É um prazer poder participar e contribuir para iniciativas como essa. Entretanto, ainda há muito pelo que lutar. #floss -

Of course, just because a service or app is #FOSS or #federated doesn't guarantee one's privacy, although the chances are better. Plus, a federated service or #FLOSS app will likely have alternatives available should there be privacy concerns.
The communities surrounding a federated service or FOSS app are more likely to make fellow users aware of any privacy concerns.
I do my best to make friends and acquaintances aware of the dangers, but, it is an uphill struggle.

In less than 12hrs I'll be taking graduates of the Tunnel training into another edition of Fortress. 4x6hrs, followed by 2 weeks of supported service deployments and experimentation.
I'm excited about every part of it (esp to see what participants build up), except the 1am starts, in my, umm, challenging timezone.
It'll be coffee black as midnight for a bit.

I'm really enjoying working with @logseq as a note taking and knowledge management tool.
Unfortunately I've created distinct graphs for different projects I'm involved in at work. But it seems quite heavy lifting to merge them together into one to allow for better cross-likability and task management across my 'work life'.
The new 'DB' version takes a bit of getting used to for me, but I can see the benefits over the previous 'OG' (markdown files) version.
If you haven't used it, yet, but are into stuff like #Obsidian, give it a shot. It's open source and fully cross-platform. #Logseq has a very low overhead of friction when working with it. Everything is a node, and it can all be linked with ease.

I use generative AI regularly, and I believe that many of us do, either by choice or by demand.
I also fiercely defend the creation of AI tools insomuch that that AI detractors lean on copyright, a system which is most accurately defined as government enforced censorship on behalf of the largest corporate entities.
That said, I don't think people realize that despite all this, I'm not "pro-AI", or at least not unquestioningly pro-AI. I believe that AI *tools* have their place, but AI as an ideology or (as it sometimes feels) like a religious movement... no.
I'm excited by the technology and what it can do for us, with the emphasis on the "us", for humanity. These tools must exist to serve humanity, which they can't do if they're opaque in their design, predatory in application and controlled by entities which have demonstrated that they are working against our best interests.

In the Opener Initiative, we collaborate on implementing the #DectNRPlus standard.
The standard provides license-free radio (no cellular operators) in the 1.9GHz band, with all bells and whistles of a 5G radio standard for #IoT applications.
In Opener, we are working on a portable #FLOSS stack from the bottom up. Joining forces where possible, the hophop project builds on @ariel and starts top-down to provide efficient #IPv6 connectivity for DECT NR+ connected devices.
