Google Maps ne peut en aucun cas utiliser les données OpenStreetMap qui sont sous #copyleft.

Mais c’est quand même marrant de voir que toutes les corrections apportées à mon quartier sur #openstreetmap apparaissent toujours sur Google Maps 3 à 4 semaines après.

I was thinking specifically of #GPL "which guarantees end users the freedom to run, study, share, or modify software, but if you distribute a derivative work or modification, you must provide the source code to those recipients under the same or equivalent license terms."

@mhoye I have said for years that Open Source is a threat to Free Software. Free Software's core principle is protecting users from developers, because developers cannot be trusted.

Open Source's core principle is "hey, free stuff!"

I really wish web frameworks had all gone AGPL instead of MIT/BSD.

Please don't brigade or "reply guy," but this short thread has very interesting points regarding #copyleft vs. permissive licenses, and is worth a read.

I personally see the merits of both, and I honestly think the corpos have successfully done an end-run around the GPL at this point.

I still like the GPL and AGPL, though. I just don't think it's anything approaching the silver bullet it's billed as.

For rapinous corporate slugs, it's at most an inconvenience. But it may well have other merits.

This is where that illusion Stallman often spoke of really comes into play: you think you are the one giving instructions to your computer, but in reality, a corporation is the one issuing the commands, and the program will heed your instructions only to the extent the corporation permits. In the context of music, this means that corporations produce music, and you can express your individuality only as much as those corporations allow. You can’t extend the functionality of most modern DAWs however you please. Music creation has largely turned into the passive consumption of plugins; just as the listener is forced to "consume" music, the musician is forced to buy & consume plugins. Different plugins come into vogue at different times, influencing the sound of music and dictating what is trendy to experiment with."
