  1. #Oxford Open Doors happening this weekend! The two college #libraries we visited today (Queen's and Linccoln) were both crowded ...

  2. What a wonderful week in Oxford, so much good science and great people. Until next time 👋

  4. theguardian.com/global-develop. I like the Pitt-Rivers Museum of Anthropology in #Oxford, @DoomsdaysCW - especially exhibits like the Maori war canoe, the Native American totem pole & (my favourite!), the head-hunters' shrunken heads. It's probably right, though, that certain things go back to where they came from, & these pieces of human remains from #Nagaland are prime examples.

  9. 15 Sculptures You (probably) Didn’t Know Existed

A fork in a lake. A shark in a roof. A portrait hidden inside fifty steel columns. These sixteen sculptures use cliffs, shadows, water, buildings, light, and even the viewer’s position as part of the work. Some are permanent landmarks; others travel or were created as temporary installations. 🎶 “Mélodie oubliée” — By Luo Li Rong In this workshop photo, Luo Li Rong uses a torch on the bronze surface of Mélodie oubliée. The finished work is 205 cm tall and weighs 250 kg, […]

  10. #YoungTurks founder & his controversial #Twitch streamer cousin both barred from entry to #UK for appearances at #Oxford #SXSW events due to alleged anti #Israel bias

A #LabourParty MP David Taylor took to #MelonHusk branded #socialmedia platform to praise the #UK home secretary office for the decision to block their visas:

"There's no reason to open our doors to those who seek to spread hate and division, especially to those who've supported a proscribed terror group"

  14. #TimothyWilliamson posted an accepted critique of fellow #philosopher #PhilipKitcher's book 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩'𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙐𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙤𝙨𝙤𝙥𝙝𝙮? (#Oxford #University Press)

"According to ...Kitcher,... much of contemporary #analyticPhilosophy ...offers ... nothing useful. [...] He wants #philosophy to change [...] But most of his recommendations would make philosophy worse: more anxious to imitate the neighbours and impress the general public...."

  15. Well, I’ve never seen the #BoatRace live but seeing as I’ve just moved to the edge of #Putney, I think I’ll stroll on down to the river today to see what all the fuss is about.

Apparently the Half Moon Pub is the place to be.

By the way, isn’t amazing that #Oxford and #Cambridge always reach the final?

  16. The good news is that there was no #Sewage Pollution Alert for Sandford Lock in #Oxford on 1st Jan 2023.

The bad news is that there has been at least one alert every day since then.

Very bad news for users of the Thames downstream of the lock, but probably good news for #ThamesWater shareholders.

Don't forget that #Henley Tory MP voted for this to be acceptable - it's not!

  17. Very excited to be chairing this event with internationally bestselling historian Simon Sebag Montefiore, discussing his new book 'The World: A Family History' – Oxford folks, come along!
