I visited the Army Museum in Stockholm not because I have a special interest in military history, but on account of much of the history of early modern Sweden being a history of a state organized around war fighting. My visit to the museum helped me understand this history a little better.
I was also most interested to see the display on Sweden before and during the Second World War; this includes a special section on Raoul Wallenberg, the businessman and diplomat who saved a large number of Hungarian Jews from murder by the Nazis and their Hungarian Arrow Cross allies. This floor of the museum also has some fascinating material on espionage and counter espionage in Sweden during the war years. I am not well informed enough to know how well the museum treats the acquiescence of the Swedish government to the demands of the Nazi regime; certainly, the movement of German troops by rail across Sweden to Norway is mentioned, but I don't really know how fully and fairly that and related topics are explored. I'd be interested to know how much this difficult and sensitive period is discussed in Swedish classrooms and in the media.
All of the above I had expected to see, but what came as a total but delightful surprise was a magnificent 17th century Ottoman tent.

Douglas under the Hertford Bridge (Bridge of Sighs), Oxford, UK
On a typical rainy autumn day in Oxford. It looks more like the Rialto Bridge in Venice, but the name has stuck.
