I'm attempting to create a custom map with #Umap , similar to how I used to do it with Google Maps in the old days.
However, while I have figured out how to add custom map pins, I have _not_ yet figured out how to create custom popups with freely definable texts. Can anyone here point me towards some useful tutorials?

#30DayMapChallenge Day 6: Vintage
The voyages of 1,300+ ancestors of my friend John Tyler, a fellow tenor in Nederlands Concertkoor, from Europe to America, 1600–1870. Most crossed in the 1630s Great Migration to New England.

Day 6 #30DayMapChallenge · Vintage. Payphones in Tokyo's 23 wards. Of 1,863 recorded in OSM, only 218 have been confirmed still standing since 2021. Styled after old Japanese city maps, red dots are confirmed phones. Grey circles are ghosts. The grid is the 1 km mesh Japan uses to count its disaster-lifeline phones.
OSM coverage is uneven though, so missing points may be unmapped rather than empty.
The #30DayMapChallenge topic for Day 6 is "Vintage", so we have a "Vin-t-age" map from Kelsey Taylor, showing the age of each protected wine growing region in Spain, France and Italy. Discover the date of first documented winemaking and planting of vines for each region, and filter by red and white wines, according to your tastes. Enjoy! 🍷 🍇

The shortest flight path looks like a curve on your map
On a globe, the straight line between two cities bends toward the pole. Flatten that globe onto a map and the same straight path looks curved. It is why flights from the US to Asia arc up over the Arctic.

ggmap version 4.0 added Stadia Maps support. The workflow: call register_stadiamaps("YOUR-KEY", write=TRUE) to store your key in .Renviron once, then use get_stadiamap() to fetch tiles or qmplot() to auto-generate the plot with the basemap computed from your data frame. @stamen styles are available with the stamen_ prefix.

#30DayMapChallenge 🗺️ Day 6️⃣: Vintage 📜
For the challenge, I always create at least one map with my favorite Cahill–Concialdi projection and I figured, why not start now?
So here is a world map in a vintage style, with Latin labels, and with the world as known by Europeans in the 1600s, but with a distinctly 21st century projection. 😁
Data is from the 1:50m #NaturalEarth.
Day 6 of the 30 Day Map Challenge: vintage.
I used this year’s topographical data to create a map of the city centre of Almere (built after 1975), in the style of Dutch topographical maps from about 125 years ago (the Bonne map).

According to the Guinness World Records, the longest line of sight on earth photographed 📸 is from the Karagöl peak ⛰️ in 🇹🇷 #Türkiye to Shkhara peak on the 🇬🇪 Georgian–Russian 🇷🇺 border covering a distance of 493 km.
