  1. confused about #postgis ST_NPoints with polygons, because a triangle apparently has 4 points.

    SELECT ST_NPoints(ST_GeomFromText('POLYGON ((0 0, 0 1, 1 0, 0 0 ))'));

    From a technical point it makes sense, but it is also quite unintuitive, because normal people on the street would definitely say a triangle has 3 points ...

  2. 🤔 Wondering if your idea for a FOSS4G NA talk is “good enough”?

    Great talks share lessons learned, useful workflows, or practical demos others can use. Submit your presentation proposal before the deadline.

  3. In the spirit of moving stuff from GH and simply do a better archiving should we move CATMOG (github.com/qmrg/CATMOG) to Zenodo?

    What should be the license?

  4. Joining 130 million points: Dewey Dunnington revisits his 2024 benchmark of #spatialjoin operations on 130 million points, now testing #SedonaDB and #DuckDB #Spatial in comparison to the original tools. The results are remarkable: 6 seconds on a laptop replacing 3-5 minutes...

  5. We want to hear about your map tools! Hey designers, developers, cartographers, or anyone who works with maps: we want to know what tools you use to wrangle geospatial data, design maps online, or to collaborate with people who do. We extended the deadline to May 15 for Stamen's Cartographic Tooling Survey, please take a few minutes to fill it out! docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI

  6. GDAL can fix invalid geometries in a few different ways, depending on what you want to preserve. The main options are a “linework” approach that sticks closely to the original input, and a “structure” approach that prioritises clean, valid polygons 🛠️

    Since GDAL 3.12, you can also run this directly from the command line with `gdal vector make-valid`.
