THIS STARTED AS ONE TEACHER DECIDING THE BATHROOM PROBLEM WAS SOLVABLE.
I teach environmental science at a public school in the Bronx. NYC puts out genuinely good public data — parks inspections, facility records, all of it. The gap was never the data. It was that almost nobody actually uses it for anything a person needs on a Tuesday afternoon.
Open data doesn't help anyone sitting on a server. It has to become something.

After almost a week down with the crum, got back into some livemusic over the past few days, hitting some old favorites like: Tsons of Tsunami absolutely off-the-wall in the best way at Barbès Saturday , quite possibly the most interesting band in livemusic at the moment; Yvonne Rogers debuting some new material with what I'd call her "normal" trio with Fraser/Gordon, just an elite jazz composer and improviser as good as ever at Close Up Monday; Tim Berne playing r pretty much 70 minutes straight of freejazz improv with an interesting sax/guitar/cello/bass/drum group at Lowlands, the rhythm section (Trevor Dunn + Tom Rainey) the focal point, they were on another level last night at Lowlands...
Also, last night was 2026.300. Not last year's pace, but not too bad!
