  5. Daily Vocal Warm-ups That Work

Every great singer knows that the voice performs at its best when it is properly prepared. Just as athletes warm up before a race, singers should warm up before rehearsals, performances, or even personal practice.

As a vocal instructor, I’ve seen many singers struggle with vocal fatigue, pitch inconsistency, and limited vocal control—not because they lacked talent, but because they skipped one essential habit: consistent vocal warm-ups.

    Start with Breathing Exercises

Your voice is powered by breath. Before singing, take slow, deep breaths, allowing your diaphragm to expand naturally. Controlled breathing helps improve tone, endurance, and vocal stability.

    Relax Your Body

Tension in your neck, shoulders, and jaw can affect your voice. Gently stretch these areas and maintain good posture. A relaxed body allows the voice to flow more freely.

    Warm Up with Gentle Humming

Begin with soft humming on comfortable notes. This gently awakens the vocal folds and improves resonance without placing unnecessary strain on the voice.

Practice Lip Trills or Tongue Trills

These simple exercises help coordinate breath and vocal production while reducing tension. They are excellent for improving vocal flexibility and smooth transitions between notes.

    Sing Scales Slowly

Practice major scales using simple vowel sounds such as “Ah,” “Ee,” “Oo,” or “Oh.” Start within your comfortable range before gradually expanding higher and lower.

    Improve Diction

Practice tongue twisters or clearly pronounce consonants and vowels. Good diction helps listeners understand your message and improves overall vocal clarity.

    End with a Song

Finish your warm-up by singing a familiar song with proper breathing, clear diction, and expressive phrasing. Focus on communicating the message, not just singing the notes.

    Consistency Produces Results.

The benefits of vocal warm-ups are not always immediate, but they accumulate over time. Singers who warm up consistently often experience better pitch accuracy, stronger breath support, improved vocal endurance, and greater confidence.

Remember, your voice is a living instrument. Treat it with care, train it consistently, and give it the preparation it deserves before asking it to perform.

Your voice will reward the discipline you invest in it.

    Reflection

If your voice reflects your daily habits, what changes can you make to prepare it better before every rehearsal or performance?

“A confident performance begins long before the first note. The habits you build during your warm-up become the strength you carry onto the stage.” — Victor Adenola

  7. 47 years ago today, August 25, 1979, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers Band, debuted at #55 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart with “All the Gold in California”. It went on to peak at #1 for two weeks and spent a total of 15 weeks on the chart.

My mom bought their album. I remember seeing it leaning against the front of her record player brings back good memories.

  11. Does anyone know of any bands that could be approacheable and that could be down with being the screenshot for kew on kewplayer.com and on github and codeberg?

The song has to be dope, that's the only requirement...preferably a band, not a solo artist.

  12. Morning! Apparently CDs are back in vogue. As far as I'm concerned they never went away, so this was an amusing read. Although mentions of 'cultural capital' and a possible 'USB revival' made me vomit.
